Hey Folks,
As some of you might remember Nancy has the extra training, DEA Lic number to provide Suboxone therapy for those who are addicted to opioids as well as she does Rx some controlled meds for pain control and the like.

For quite sometime now I have been getting confusing and conflicting coding information on how to best use this code when screening for multiple substances of abuse. Some seem to be saying that a person can submit for as many tests are on one's screening panel of rapid CLIA Waived tests regardless of whether or not any of the drugs on that panel of tests are from similar classes or categories of drugs, like Oxy and Heroin are both opioids. Others seem to be saying that using that same example that since they are in the "Same Class or Category" that we can then only charge for one test. Such charging differences can increase or decrease the number of screenings one can charge for by as many as half or twice.

And Yes we do know that we can only bill good old Medicare once for any screening regardless of the number of substances screened and tested for. Thanks in advance...

Paul
