Hey folks,
As you can tell we are a bit behind the update curve here living in 5.26 land because of all the slowness reports that started popping up around V6 after its official release.... Nancy and I have no immediate intent of cooperating with Big Brother's Invassive Meaningless Use collection of data and hoop jumping. They can go to you know where... She sort like our Alaska Friends while I'm seriously left of center, no where near what the slimey Salamander, I mean Newt has redefined as left, which is actually the real center for anyone who actually wants to have a free and open conversation about any and all options and realities... Republicans and Democrats can both be labled "Liberal", Google Phil Oches, "Love me I'm a Liberal" for a proper 1960's pre Newt definition of a true, real Liberal.

Anyway, neither of us like this rude, frightening over reporting over invassive huge data grab to be used and controlled by "Who" and stored and fired walled how and yet still legally accessable to most law enforcement agencies via the insane Patriot Act and other Consitution destroying laws and ruling post 9-11.

So with all that said, I would like to try and get Nancy set up with E Rxing if it would truly make her life easier faster and make our patients feel all the more "Wow" and serviced by their doc being able to look them in the eye and say, "It's There, already sent out..." the way my GI does whenever he writes me a new something to try for my maitainance...

So would it make more sense for the moment of a completely Windows XP Pro little P2P office such as ours, with a couple of older but still fairly capable machines to simply update to 5.29 for the moment and use that to start E Rx'ing with for the meantime since we are not big on Meaningless Uselessness, and wait either for some more money (yeah right like that is every going to happen in this business and economy) to get some faster Windows 7 machines in here someday with i5 or i7 chips for some added and proper modern punch, or does the Rapid Release have worthwhile and noteworth enough upgrades to take that version here and now??? And is there anyone out there running 6.10 or 12, rapid release on a similar P2P XP only like system and if so what are your feelings, insights and learned experiences with all of that then....

Otherwise, I was thinking about waiting at least until V7 becomes beta one or two to start tinkering around with the new PM when it arrives... Thanks much in advance for sharing your experiences and insights, and feelings on this matter....

I would contemplate going to the 6.1.2 version - I was running 1 gb xp home machines until I recently upgraded to windows 7 PRO. The ERX is much better, and even if you do not want to use MU you can do a variety of things with the reporting function as well as the health maintenance functions that are useful. Why pay support and only get an interim version. Look at your machines and see if you could cheaply upgrade the RAM.

Sort of have updated the Ram on the older ones as best as they would take in their design and the newer ones came pretty well endowed to begin with at 4 gigs a piece with the laptop having dual cores and the server tower being two dual Xeon Chipped processors, so we're probably about as strong as we can get without investing in new modern stuff at this point... We're all updated too on XP now as well....

Was V6 about as fast or slow, and stable as old 5.29 was I guess is my main concern. I see and hear folks with much more robust systems having complaints and it starts to worry me that I could actually set my wife and her productivity and happiness, frustration level backwards and not forwards, and that is certainly NOT worth it.... So your feedback on that one question is probably the bottom line factors for my choice here. And lastly I agree that if all things being equal we certainly should take advantage of the features we paid for in the present most recent version of the product... All things being equal that is though....

Paul, v6.1.2 is much more robust than the initial v6's.
The ERx portion was causing massive problems for many users with the first v6's, however that all seems to be fixed w/ the current v6.1.2.

I think Nancy will like the ERx feature. I know I love it.Saves massive amounts of paper and staff time and my time. Even if I weren't doing MU, I would still like it for the ERx'ing.

6.1.2 has been rock solid for me. Most of my machines are XP dual cores 1.83 or so. Speed is not a problem for me. Haven't seen it as an issue on the board, not sure if it has been a problem lately, I was past that in the early 6 series.

I truly love ERx. I was still printing paper copies until about 2-3 months ago but really felt it was redundant, so I stopped.

P2P should be fine, unless you have too many computers, but then, it has been working well for you.

Tomorrow is probably the day of "Leap of Faith" in my using my "Polling the Audience" lifeline.... :-)

We're closed tomorrow so after Nancy does some paperwork during the first half of the day, I'll probably get cracking doing the Major, Around the Horn, Update of all the computers here in the office. I have decent faith in our computers for the most part as they seem to be doing great considering the OS and some of their ages. I always try to purchase "Well Built" robust computers so software doesn't outpace my investments and for the most part here I am today with solid proof of the philosophy paying dividends years later. Nancy's old Laptop has me a bit concerned in terms of its strength and speed for a more demanding product written way after it was made but we shall see. She tends to have AC and FAP open all day in the Exam Room with it as those are her two go to programs obviously all day long....

So fingers crossed and send me good AC User Board Vibes. If you see a mushroom cloud coming from your slightly southwest perspective (I gather that is where Syracuse is relative to you and Bert in your part of Maine) or hear reports of minor tremor activity detected in the South East Great Lakes region, then you'll know what happened..... Otherwise I will try to update the gang late tomorrow night or sometime on Thursday...

You might consider setting the restore point on all your machines, if you are worried. That way if it all screws up to hell in a hand-basket, you can restore to the last known functional point in time, which is tonight/tomorrow morning before the upgrade.

You know how to do this?

Right click MyComputer-->Properties-->System Protection-->Create a Restore point
