There are a lot of facets to UpDox, and not everyone uses them all. We have found this an excellent addition to AC in terms of document management, fax management, and the patient portal. It is quite easy to use and very well supported, but as with any highly capable program it will take a while to master all the things it can do if you want to use it to its fullest.

There are a few YouTube videos, but they relate to an older version. I wish they would expand and update these, as I know I am missing a lot even after using it for 2 years.

Absolutely a must if you want to go paper-free:
-- Incoming and outgoing faxes and emails with or without a fax machine
-- HIPAA secure Patient Portal to handle one way or two way patient contacts, distributing results and forms to patients
-- Fill out forms & documents, sign documents
-- Fax back and file into the EMR with a single click

I don't work for them, just happy to use Updox.

Updox is a great program, to be sure, but it is not a MUST if you want to go paperless. I have been paperless for over 3 years and do not use Updox although I have recently downloaded the free trial. As I am very cheap, and as my staff has become accustomed to our current work-flow, I will remain a Paperport user. It is free with some Brother MFC machines, it does not charge for faxes, there is no additional charge for more than 3 users and it is easily shared across my network. JMO.

How do you provide a patient portal, secure messaging and a PHR?

The same way I have for 25 years....the phone. Patients love the fact that they can still talk to someone.

I have attested. There is no specific mention of which electronic means one uses. It does not specify whether it is a portal or not. I can use (if I choose to) free HIPPA-compliant email programs and have in the past.
