You have received this in the mail or you will if you take Medicare. I just spoke with my billing and Medicare is asking for a refund from all the doctors in amounts of 1 cent on a vist to 53 cents or maybe slightly more for January to April of 2010. They also sent 8 pages of paperwork. They say the physician OVERCHARGED medicare and "IS NOT WITHOUT FAULT" and other strong wording. Based on what happened by our research, this is an outrage!
CMS rep says they had not yet set their fees in 2010 until March, so they just paid at a slightly higher rate until then. Now they are demanding a refund because their new fees are slightly less. Instead of apologizing to us, they are saying it is our fault and we need to fill out 8 pages of documents on it. They are asking hundreds of thousands of doctors to fill out this paperwork, and the lost time over what amounts to just a few dollars, and furthermore their fault, is terrible when you add up the lost work across the country. I will send them the check but not the paperwork and they said this is fine. We will report them to Medicare Fraud and Abuse and possibly our Congressional Representatives.

I am having problems with AC picking up on my rapid strep orders for CQM reporting.
For pt between 2 to 18 yrs with diagnosis of pharyngitis ( 462) and a RST ordered thru the order general tab and a signed encounter and CPT 87880 on the super bill, it is still not picking this up when I run a report.
Can anyone help with suggestions?
thanks

Boondoc,

How much did they want you to pay? Unbelievable. First they under re-imburse us then they say that they have paid us too much! I haven't received my letter yet, but when I do, it will copied and sent to my Senators and Representatives.

We got pages and pages of these claims with the new calculations. But, since I am non-par with Medicare, the patients got the payments, not us. If they want the money back, they will have to pursue every individual patient for these trivial amounts.

I am so glad that I made the decision to get out of Medicare participation, and I highly recommend it.

Guys, I look at it differently. It was Congress that kept postponing the decision on a rate fix, month after month, into the following year. CMS did not decide that you owe the 2 cents...it was Congress' inaction that created this. In fact, they are in the process of doing it again. I can guess where they will file your letters...

It is not the reimbursement I have such a problem with, although this is just another 'straw' on the camel's back. It is the nerve to word a nasty letter to me as my fault for overcharging them, and to make me fill out that paperwork times thousands of physicians over a few cents per visit. The physician man hours when multiplied across our nation is mind blowing for a few cents. My total bill for all 4 months was 54 dollars!

I have not yet received the letter. But I'm certain I'll be very P*SSED-OFF when I receive it. Thanks for the headsup Boondoc!
