I'm the IT admin for a 1 provider practice. Since the upgrade to v6.0.9, we've had nothing but headaches. All users report excessive slowdown and occasional crashes. Especially in the ERx side of the program.
I've already researched the issues with v6, and have tried to rectify them to no avail.
The doctor has asked me to roll back the software to v5.0.29, and upon trying, I was greeted with a lovely message from Database Tuner, telling me that it failed because "Meds.mdf" could not be read.
Now, I'm sure this is because the v6 upgrade changed the structure of the database which can no longer be read with v5.
Is there a way to roll back to v5, and if so, what is proper protocol? If not, what are my options with getting this running properly?
His setup includes:
Server:
Pentium Dual-Core E5200 @ 2.5ghz
Wistron 532837-ZH1 (Intel P35 Northbridge)
2GB - DDR2 RAM Single Channel
2x 1TB in RAID1
Windows Home Server
Windows 7 machines: 7
Windows XP machines: 2
Thanks in advance for all your help.

You cannot roll back without losing all patient data since change. I guess the issue is what crashes have they noted ? I have used Version 6 for months and have noted a tolerable slowdown, but no real crashes (1 or 2 sporadic, but I have Windows so I am used to those).

One way to roll back to V5.0.29 is to do a fresh install provided you have a backup copy of V5.0.29 ,the .enc file You will need the V5.0.29 database installer & database tuner I do have the v5.029 installer & database tuner if you need it. I am sure amazingcharts has them too. Hope this helps Grenvillle

Starwrist,
I have never read a phrase which I despise more than "meds.mdf can not be found." Or it may be something like "you have an out-of-date version of meds.mdf.
When I first updated to 6.0.9, I hated it due to the TSP800 issue, and tried to go back. The meds.mdf issue stopped me. I tried moving a meds database from 6.029 to the folder, but it did not help.
Then, I restored an EXACT image for the 5.0.29 EXCACTLY where it was previously. It still didn't work. If AC is going to do that to me, get rid of the intermediate step of the database tuner. The database should be converted as part of the install.
I am convinced that you can only roll back by one of two methods:
1. Uninstalling anything and everything AC, and then deleting any registry file. Of course, with a registry backup and a 5.0.29 backup.
2. A complete reinstall of the OS, something I am not willing to do given the enormous amount of time that takes coupled with the subsequent headaches of forgetting small things about the reinstall.
Maybe the first one is why support could help.
I wouldn't be so upset if it referenced the AmazingCharts.mdf database. Frankly, as powerful as SQL is compared with Access, I am not sure I didn't like it better.

This is actually what I wish I could do, on every machine in the office. I frequently re-install Windows on my personal machine about every three months. There's nothing better than a fresh install.
Unfortunately, that's simply not an option for my customer. The time and resources lost would be too much of stress on him. I'm looking for the fastest method to get him back up, fully-functional.
I'm currently in talks with tech support on how to resolve this issue. I'll keep everyone posted, and if anyone can contribute, it'd be greatly appreciated.

One thing to try might be installing the previous version as a server on another computer and then moving all the data over by hand using Access or SQL Server Management Studio.

Wow, people going to these lengths to roll back - makes me not want to ever leave 5.0.29!

I am not surprised with your server unexpected crashes and unbearable waiting time.
My suggestion is too much headache to go backward. How about ask your doc to move forward to 6.0.10 but the first step is upgrade your server. Take your old server offline and put in a new win7 4-16 gig memory. Pentium dualcore E5200 is obsolete per version 6. Minimum memory req for server is 4 Gig.
Even you can take one of your Win7 and make it server as a test run. Install full AC on this and copy over your enc backup files and run a restore on the test machine.
You can do this test in less than 1 hour.

When we upgrade, we download the new version to a disk and then copy the disk so we do all the computers at once. Saves alot of time. We upgraded to V6.0.10 on eight computers in about one hour. This version is running very well on all my computers without slowing except for one of them. We are looking into the problem on that one computer.

So, after much deliberation, I've decided that we're going to upgrade the server. It's something that really needs to be done anyway.
I will be building this server with:
Intel Core-i5 Sandy Bridge.
16GB DDR3 1600 RAM
Intel P67 MOBO
2x 1TB WD Cavier Black drives in Raid 1
Some other minor bells and whistles.
Total cost of the server will be $1032.50, thanks NewEgg.
In the mean time, though, I'm going to move the database over to a newer computer in the office and use it as the "server" until I can get this up and running.
I'll let you guys know how well this works.
Thanks for all the help.

We have 9 clients and what we do is put the installer on the server in a share then launch it at the same time on all clients (or as fast as I can walk to each of them). Then I have to circle around hitting Next or Okay a few times. So no disks, but same idea everything gets installed in parallel.

@Philip
We do the same. Why aren't you using Remote Desktop and save yourself from running around.

I'll be using Windows 7 Pro x64.
I keep the AC installer on a shared folder on the server and roll out the install to all client machines simultaneously from there, real easy.

I'm going to try to install it using a GPO. Gonna run some tests before I actually do it though.

Grenville, I need to install V 5.0.29 on a new computer, but I can't find the necessary files on AC's web site. Do you still have the files? Thanks, Michael Jennings Salt Lake City msj@pfpSLC.com
