Folks,
As some of you know I split my time these days between here at the AC user group and the IMP Listserv of small more radical providers (much like those here I might add....). Someone recently posted a thread about this "New Service" being offered via SureScripts. And if you follow the Link here and read to the bottom, at the end there is a reference to the open coded and universality of this system and that folks such as AC and a couple of the other smaller less expensive vendors are supposedly working on, In process it seems to imply, developing an interface with this thing which would allow lots of interesting data to be reduced or converted into some univeral form so an infinite number of practices with almost any vendor's EMR that bothered to create their own interface could allow their users to be involved with, make two way use of, send and recieving all sorts of reports, images (like X-Rays and the like) and other data with relative ease.....

http://www.aafp.org/online/en/home/practicemgt/physiciansdirect.html

This is the first I have heard of it, but I would gather that AAFP would NOT be mentioning vendors directly by Name if they were not confident in the fact that such vendors were at least in process of making such a thing actually happen and be an honestly offered feature sometime in the relatively near future....

So anyone here Know a darn thing about this yet.... Oh and please note the $15 monthly, taxi meter fee to be forever collected and at times increased I'm sure to be made on the behalf of SureScripts forever more.....

Another article a few years ago specifically stated that AC had signed on and was working on it with surescrips - I didn't know it was to other providers, thought it was only to pharmacies and I didn't think it was worth 15 per month. I assume Jon is still working on it but i do not know if anybody has got it up and running as I have not seen ads for it.

Well instead of having lots of individual interfaces to lots of hospitals in areas where there is more than one, lots of little interfaces to many different labs and radiology groups and the like, it seems to be like a "Central Office" to route phonecalls so all data can be sent and recieved in some universal enough formate that almost any and all offices with EMR's could then send and recieve such images and reports...

Almost cutting out many things if one wants like REC's for example (which we have no Big Brother desire to join up with) and making this one stop translation in other direction so all flows smoothly between offices. This much like present day Snail Mail and Faxing if done on a direct to only those listed on some mailing list or the like much like E-Rx'ing and emailing. Now you want to share a set of labs with two and only two other offices where there are docs all sharing care for your patient, now without the REC's creating centralized forever single lifetime charts, now you can share it with and only with those who are actually presently in care of that particular patient...

This I would love to use as a viable and much more accurate and privacy respecting system of proper use of "Universally Agreed Upon Format" like in CD's, NTSC old fashioned TV and Video, today's HDTV standards in various countries and regions.... Much like a fax or snail mail we only share with those that we deem worthy and in a "Need to Know" status for that patient and that particular issue.... This I could live with and actively support if it were to work in the way I think it does....
