Now that we are sending ERxs to pharmacies when patients are sitting in the exam room, some patients do not need the med right away, but will say in 2 mths before their next appt in 3 mths.

I type in the message to pharmacist: "Please update in your computer, patient will contact you when he/she needs the medicine". Script is good for 1 yr or 6 mths for brain medicines.

I wish there was be a check box with this message built in AC, so I do not have to type in each time or copy and paste.

speaking of short keys, do we have an official list of all of them? i know there have been certain threads. Also is there someone we talk to get some done?

Yep

I use ShortKeys (thanks all for the tip) and simply state in all caps so the pharmacist with hyperopia can't complain.

KEEP ON FILE

or

KEEP ON FILE, DISPENSE GENERIC

or

PATIENT STATES WILL PICK UP TODAY

The latter not used as often in my specialty where fewer acute problems are encountered.

Not sure about that as ShortKeys, a free version download from www.shortkeys.coom, is anything that works for you. I might add that I use "aa" as the initiating key as I haven't seen an aardvark problem in years. All my RX macros, what SmartKeys is essentially, involve letters typed with the left hand since my right hand is busy mousing the eRx in AC. Thus aaf (keep on file), aag (keep on file, disp generic), aat (will pick up today) etc.
