Okay my server guy has turned out to be useless. He set me up but now I can never get a hold of him when i want.
Can someone help me with this.
I have AC on the server. In the office my computers obviously use the database file on the server.
When I am away from the office is there a way to use my laptop and still "log in" to have the database from the server? Or do i need to use logmein. i m using logmein now but i don't want to have to install adobe, word, excel etc on the server, just want to be able to use AC and also grab files from server like i do when i am in my office? Is there a way to do this while at home or away office(i have one satellite) Thanks!

Sounds like you need to think about Remote Desktop/Remote access/Terminal Services.
Is your AC server running a MS Server OS? The path will be easier if you already have that.
If not, Wendell found a great price for MS SBS 2011 Essentials on Amazon. Or Plain 2008R2.

Why not install logmein on your computer in the office rather than working directly on the server? Or is the laptop the computer you use in the office?

I may be saying the same thing as Sandeep, but why log on to the server? If you log onto your client computer in the office, you are still using the same database. Whatever you could do in the office, you can do from a distance, without installing new programs.

A great article by Grenville, and RDP is incredible now on 2008 as you can log into any computer on the network without any other software as you would with LogMeIn. But, in your case, given the difficulty you are having, LogMeIn would be simpler for you for now. As everyone else has said, log into one of your computers, open up AC and use it. Plain and simple.

Are you having ANY issues/problems with your server? Are you having any issues/problems with your network?

Hey guys:
The laptop is my computer in the office. The only computer that is on at work is the server.
I am not having any issues with the network. I just don't know how to use remote destop and all that and if what i am looking for is even possible?
I have logmein on the server already and have been logging into it.
But I am trying to change it up as with wide screens and remoting in with logmein , the screen doesn't come up in the correct resolution. Is what I am looking to do possible/

Wow. You have a server and a laptop and that's it? Why even have the server? Just for backup? I do what everyone else suggests and log in to a desktop at my office but apparently you don't have a desktop at all in your office.
You simply want AC to connect to your database on your server through the internet at home. That seems doable but I'm not the guy to tell you how.

VPN would be the way to it, but that would be quite slow. My suggestion would be to add a desktop/secondary computer at the office. Or you could work directly on the server, but just Amazing Charts. Don't browse the internet/install any unnecessary applications.

Okay thanks guys! Just thougth I would ask. I actually have a desktop at the office but it stays off at night because it is an AMD and had in the past overheated. I am changing it out but was trying not to leave on computers at work except for the server.

...because it is an AMD and had in the past overheated. Being an AMD shouldn't affect temperatures ha. Make sure you keep the case in a well ventilated area. You can download a program called coreTemp to check the temperatures. If it's overheating, probably due to an improperly seated heatsink. Just take some thermal paste and reapply.
