Man, this has got to be easier than I'm making it or maybe it really just sucks. I've stepped up to 6.09 and, although just slightly better, adding diagnosis is just painful and slow.

I would just always right click in the Assessment and have templates for my most common diagnosis. Right click, click "biliary dyskinesia" and off it goes.

I'm trying to be a good boy and enter the coded diagnosis. I can't use templates anymore so that makes me mad. Now the problem line at least actively searches but only the words that it starts with. I can't search by ICD-9 codes on that screen and I can't just enter the ICD-9 code.

Can't we just get a right click where your top 30 diagnoses is clickable? Frustrating.

Now "biliary dyskinesia" is actually coded as "other disorders of the gallbladder" so I have to click search, then I can search the ICD-9 or "contains gallbladder".

Just horrendously slow. I have no idea how you guys do it in IM or FP when you have 10 diagnoses.

You supposedly can edit ICD9 codes for your language. It really should not be that hard....as an fp I often enter many at a time and granted I know many, but the search function is not that bad. Just hit a letter and then go to search and enter what you are looking for.

Unfortunately your custom names for dx may go away whenever icd update occurs.

If this switches to ICD-10, this will be hell. I'm not a coder but now, the EMR makes me become one...and a typist, transcriptionist

I am not sure if this helps, but I got fed up with the same problems
I use Shortkeys for a lot of the other parts of my note so I codified my common diagnoses (top 50 or so) and just enter them as codes
(e.g "dxhtn" will result in # HYPERTENSION, BENIGN ESSENTIAL (401.1): )
This works for about 85% of what I do and saves a ton of time

I found that typing in the diagnosis is painfully slow and comes up much quicker if you click the "search Dx" and enter it in there.

If it's an established patient and you've previously entered in the diagnosis on a previous visit, you can click the problem list to add the diagnosis.

Steven, I have heard that this problem was eradicated. I don't think it has, but to be honest, I stopped editing because it wasn't worth the hassle if it disappears every quarter. When was the last time yours got erased?

I really like this idea. If they don't get erased, as above, then I think I will start doing this.
