has anyone moved the database files ( using detach and move) to another drive(say E drive). being a sql guy I hate the database to be on the C drive. It is never recommended, but looks like AC has some hard coded stuff that cause issue

I don't know about moving it. But I installed it on a different partition. It's on my E Drive. Separate Partitions for Exchange, OS, and UserData as well.

You could try this in a VM just as test.

I hate database on the C:drive as well. I have it on the D:drive, therefore it is backed up when I back up data.

I have done it both ways. I like Detach and move rather than just detach and then copy as, if I recall, it moves the correct folders and databases. Of course, you simply reattach after. I would do a backup of your server and of AC just to be on the safe side.

Once, I just bit the bullet and installed to D. I guess in that scenario I would prefer the program on the data drive rather than the data on the system drive. But, of course, there is the silly backups going to the AC folder automatically, although I do have them removed automatically.

How do you do that?

I have tried the detach and move tool and it didn't work at all. I lost the database. So I uninstalled it and did a clean reinstall on a different drive D:\AC. It's working fine so far.

It definitely will work with a clean install on any drive. But, detach and move works as well at least in versions 4 and 5. You cuould also move them using SSMS if you have the password.
