AC is very flexible about customizing to user needs.

Does anyone know how to change the order or category names of the "item type" list under the "import items"? I can't find anything in the WIKI or in this forum.

The list of categories is quite generic -- I would prefer fewer categories, with some different names, in different order, to speed up and reduce errors in importing stuff.

If you are referring to the item types in imported items (as opposed to the "import/export menu item under the File menu in the main screen,) it cannot be done from within AC, at least 5.029. However, using UpDox you can create new categories, and then move imported items into those categories. You would have to put at least one item into the desired UpDox category from within UpDox for each patient to create that category for that patient; there is no global creation of new categories.

To add to what David said above, you can't change the default categories in Imported Items from within AC. However, you can create new categories from within AC for an individual patient.

For example, suppose you would like a category in a certain patient's Imported Items called "Sonograms". First import the sonogram report into Imported Items, then right click on the item, and choose "Edit Item Description". The Edit box opens, and type into the "Item Type" the word Sonograms, and click "Edit It". A new category appears in that patient's Imported Items called Sonograms, with the report under that category.

In the future, you can continue to place reports into the newly created Sonograms file, as long as you follow the steps above.

Unfortunately, you have to do this on every patient, unless you use Updox to import documents, which will allow you to rename default categories.

Thanks all. That's what I surmised.

It would be nice some day to be able to edit the categories globally. When I import items and go to the Item category list, I always have to scroll up and down to get the right one, and sometimes I miss, then it goes into the wrong category. Also there are things there I can't use, and things I would name differently.

Not a show stopper, though.

My vote is for Updox. You can customize categories and import into AC. You can get a free trial for two weeks.

There is a software application that works very will with solo practices called file assistant pro - FAP.
I think of it as a big file box that sits outside of AC but interfaces with AC.
If you can scan to a pdf file directly, you can scan directly into the fap.
also if your fax is set up to scan directly to a pdf file , these can also go directly into fap
Imported items can be customised into 20 different categories.
There are other filing features as well.
If you have your AC chart open to john doe, you can open a stored file on jane doe without having to close john doe's chart first.
Bert has introduced me to this program and would be the expert on this.

Richard, can you expound on this further? To what degree does it integrate with AC?

We want to be able to scan items on a patient, but not have them fill up the imported items folder (so we can back them up separately). Does FAP let you "find" that folder from within AC?

This software, FAP, is outside of AC.
The data 'filebox'-folder, contains the data that you scan in, or have faxed in.
This data is backed up separately from AC.
This does not coordinate with the imported folders with AC.
FAP links to the AC database file using the name, birthday, sex .

So data that you scan or receive by fax goes into an imported folder. The documents received can be pdf or word. they are listed in the imported area by type of file, and date received.
FAP displays with various windows. The one with the imported files is a list.
One opens the files on the list one at a time.
On the opened file, you determine what the document is and who it is regarding.
You then 'name' the file linking first to a patient in AC and then linking the file to one of the categories that you define.
Once the file is named, it can be imported into the 'Data Folder'.
That's about it.
When you need to retrieve the file, you open the category and find the patient's name and open the file.
Should a patient have numerous files in a specific category, these files may be merged.
So, in this case you may in a sense, have a stack of electronic files, merged together

www.medwaresoftware.com

It's freeware.

V.I.P.E.R is as well.

The dosage calculator isn't really worth downloading.

Amazing Labels is a sure bet, can't miss software, that given it is free, I have no idea why any sane person would not use it.

I have had a couple of people ask me if Amazing Labels is compatible with v6. I have not tried it, and I don't have tons of time to install print drivers in sandboxes. My developer states that all of our software is compatible with v6.

I am afraid I must beg to differ. I suppose I would say users are very flexible about customizing to AC's needs. frown
