Well, I'm 2 years into AC and I still don't like how we document phone calls with patients.
How/Where do you guys document phone calls? We put it under an Addendum then Other. Quite a bit of typing. I don't like it but I'm not quite sure how to make it better.

My MA types a message to me with the patient's chart attached. I respond to the MA, the MA calls the patient with the answer, and then saves the series of messages to the chart.
90% of the time my answer is "you need an appt". 5% of time it is yes or no. The rest are "I don't know".

That's probably a better idea. I'm just not in the office most of the time so she may text me and I text the answer back between cases so I can't really reply through AC from the hospital. I do like that if she eRx that this will automatically fill in on the message so we have a record of the prescription and my MA and can type a message as well and either save it to the chart or send it to me.
This is much better. No clue why I've never thought of it.

I do the same: My MA sends me a message with the chart attached. I respond to the message. After calling the patient or sending back to the MA or the receptionist, the message is 'SAVE(d) TO CHART'. I only use addendums when addending a chart note. Every call is documented. Everything is documented. Remember, if it wasn't documented, it didn't happen.

I'm still confused about the best way do this very common task. I like DocFlute's method but where in the chart are those messages kept? Where will they show up when I open the chart at the next visit? Does a new prescription or a refill show up in the meds at the next encounter? Sorry, I'm a new user. Thanks.

The messages show up in the Past Encounters tab. And, yes, if you write a refill or a new script from the message function, it will show up in their medication list when you next open it.
