So with patients already getting upset and worried about news reports about Simvastatin 80 mg I decided to use AC reporting to go through all my records and find patients on high dose simvastatin so that I could notify them -

Chose all patients with DEMOGRAPHICS-INACTIVE=FALSE
Searched active meds for Simvastatin 80 mg and ran report.

Then was able to do bulk written letter (ironically saved in chart under Rich Text Format, not usually HTML) with not perfect formatting but serviceable. Generated letters to each patient and automatically saved in each chart - sent letters to 53 patients (at least printed and saved for staff to mail) in less than 5 minutes.

Now you need to run a report to look for the patients on simvastatin 20-40 mg and one of the interacting drugs, commonly amiodarone, Verapamil or Diltiazem.
Don't forget the Vytorin prescriptions also (simcor too?)

I know - am working through them - unfortunately it is a lot of letters and calls - just thought it was great to be able to mass mail letters and have them in chart.

I also used report writer to generate Excel spreadsheet list of all active patients with addresses to make a mailing list to do a mailing (2450 active patients) - worked great.

So you know all the other letters are in standard HTML format. No change in letter writer. It has a little bug in the formatting for the letters, and I have spoke with Jon and he is going to work on the brands.
