In version 6 when I use the script writer to write a prescription it doesn't immediately update the current medication box. In previous versions when you double clicked the current medication box it would update. In this version it doesn't.

I spoke with tech support and they say "it is by design that medications added/edited in Write Scripts don?t updated Current meds until the next visit. The reason for this is that the Current Med list represents what the patient is taking before/at the time of the visit and that has been the flow we have tried to maintain."

My concern is just that it could create a medical legal problem if your "current" medication list lists one list of medications and your plan list another. I thought that the current medication list would have the current medications the patient is on after finishing the office visit. I feel you can always look at your previous note to see what the medications were that the patient is/was taking before/at the time of the visit.

Wondering how other users feel?

Thanks

Seems that once you write the script, it should update it. We have alot of situations where we have to print out a medication list before the next time the patient actually comes in. They may not be due to see us for another 3 months, but we'll get a request from a specialist for their medication list. With some patients, we print them out a new medication list when they are in so they will have it if needed.

I think it is the way it should work. The current meds are what the patient was taking when they came into the visit, any new meds would be included in your plan form the script writer.

The version 5 is almost there, but as you noted if you write a new prescription and then double-click on the current med box the new med would also be included (it should not be there)
In V6 can you still double click the current meds and add outside (other) meds (reconcile)?

Printing out a medication list is still an issue, not sure what that looks like in V6.

If you want to be confused, read a note generated by Logician/Centricity.

I agree with the V6 change. I never liked the V5 method and would prefer the note to show the change in meds that occurs as a result of the appt.

I have generated a letter template to do med lists - one office I saw puts on a paragraph definining terms such as po, pr, HS, ac, TID, etc and then after that you just hit updated medication button (in v 6) and it will reflect whatever is prescribed at that time. This is great when a specialist note changes meds - you can use the right click meds and add - then print letter for med list (I use for nursing home and assisted living).
