Recently our office purchased two new computers: a Dell desktop and an HP elitebook laptop. Both computers have Windows 7 Professional. We are using AC V5.17. We are experiencing problems where AC will freeze-up while attempting to open PDF files in Imports. Adobe Acrobat 9 Standard will not work at all with AC 5.17 and Windows 7 Pro. Turn off the AC and Adobe Acrobat or Adobe X Reader will work fine on Windows 7. Our database is on a server with Windows SBS 2003. Has anyone else had any problems with opening PDF files on a pc with Windows 7. Another related question, will other pdf readers such as PDF-Xchange work with AC?

I had issues with Adobe as well on my Win 7 computers. There is a conflict with Adobe and the speech recognition built in to Win 7. Going in to Adobe, under preferences, and turning off the protected mode at startup seems to have fixed the issue. Found this after googling the issue but can't remember the site. Hope it helps.

Can you give me more detailed instructions how to do this? I looked under preferences and I couldn't find anything about protected mode at startup. I did find something called Enhanced Security and there is a box to check to turn this on. I am using Adobe Reader X.

Sure, here is the link to the forum where I found this solution. See the 20th post near the bottom. http://forums.adobe.com/message/3361608This person did screen captures to illustrate where/how to edit the preferences. Good luck.

Can also get around issue by right clicking on item to be opened and selecting open in default program. Not wure why, but it seems to work.
