Is there a way to write a note about a patient in the chart that will not print out as part of the medical record? Maybe that the patient is known to be difficult or avoids paying bills. I need room for more that just one or two words...the Flags are fine for that. I want to add a note with details about the situation so that myself or Alice or whomever will undeastand how this patient may act, but I don't want it to be part of the record where it could be sent to another doctor and bias them.

Hi Wayne, that's what the yellow popups are for. You have two (depending on the software version you're currently on) on you demographics page; one of which will "pop up" for your front desk staff. You also have one on the chart that is editable by clicking the reminder button. Just make sure the relevant check box is marked.

Give it a try on a practice patient.
HTH, I hope I've been clear.

For a longer/detailed message, I create and import a simple text (.txt) file that includes the detailed message, then reference to that in the yellow/pop up box. If the situation resolves and I no longer need the info, I delete the imported item.

This might also be a place for one of the mysteries of AC (at least it is to me), namely the "confidential information" section. So far as I know, this is a portion of the chart that is ONLY visible by first entering the "enlarge textbox" mode. I might be missing something, but you can't see information in this box without going to enlarged mode, and tabbing through to the confidential section. It does not print or show in print previews. The downside is that it is SO confidential that there is no way to know that information is in there without looking in the way I just described. I mean it is REALLY confidential; maybe more so than you would like. You might be better off with the yellow popups, as per Ben. I have always wanted to understand some use for the confidential section, so I thought I would bring it up.
