So, does anyone really have a handle on the HM section. I mean specifically where you use the risk factor and rules. I am aware that you can add and adjust rules in general in the Admin section.
I see there are very few Risk Factors in the Family History section...but no way to add them. So if someone has a family history of colon cancer and I wish to make a rule to have this person screened, how do I do it? Or rather for each patient with a family history of colon cancer, I want an HM recommendation to show up. We even may want to add some custom ones, e.g., traveling to developing nations, check to see if have proper vaccinations.
I noticed that you can have a rule NOT APPLY to patients with a particular diagnosis. But, you can't make the rule APPLY TO patients with a particular diagnosis. Or i cant figure out how to do this. This section isnt very useful if I cant do these things.
And some rules I want to turn off. There are prompts for screenings that come up for all patients. I'm sure i want some of them off.

At least in 5.029, there is no way to make a new rule. I had the exact same issue (wanting to make a rule for early colonoscopy of high risk polyps) and after beating my head against the wall was told by tech support it could not be done. Right then and there I decided to forget about the Health Maintenance section as being way too crippled.

While we're on the subject, is anyone using the health maintenance section?

I am trying but not very successfully. I too have issues with not being able to add rules. Needs a lot of work.

I am beta-ing V6 (just got it intsalled on my laptop, so haven't done too much yet) but I have noticed a lot of changes in the HM. But I noticed it AFTER I made the post. Like, 5 minutes ago.

Yes, I have been using the section and fairly pleased with it. There are some drawabcks e.g. Colonoscopy needs a work around as the repition frequency varies from patient to patient. It works well for the fixed interval issues. I have not seen version 6, the version just prior to it had some nice enhancements. We use the checklist and have created some customized rules. Mukesh

Is version 6 ready for use? I am confused. Why do new users get offered version 6, while current users are still beta testing?

Version 6 is still in beta, there is no official release at this point.

if someone buys the program, they get 5.029. We are using that in our office. I am beta-ing v6.06. There will be at least one more beta I believe. I am emulating our office proceedures somewhat on my home laptop

So 5.1x was basically a dead-end?

Dead-end is not the correct description. V6 is basically the next release after V5.1 - we just changed the numbering for our ONC certification to minimize the risk of confusion on which version was usable for Meaningful Use.
Everybody who is on V5.1 will be updated to V6, just as anybody who is on 5.0 and earlier will be updatable.

Dr. Bertman,
I have heard a rumor that final version 6 will feature folders in the Imported Items that will stay closed when double clicked on.

First, call me Jon.
Second, Imported Items are not significantly changed in V6. This will be, I'm sure, one of the main discussion points at ACUC 2011- how to make the Imported Items tab easier to use and manage. The "Do It Better" sessions on Sunday will look at this and the other frequently discussed issues on the board.

Thanks, Jon. As you may have suspected if you read our posts routinely, this is a a small issue I use to to needle Bert. Thanks for the response in any case.

We tried HM for a while but also found it useless without the ability to apply a diagnosis code TO a rule as Wayne described. Is this updated/changed in V6 or not?

Can anyone tell me what these HM rule grades are? I see grade a, grade b. And ways to filter based on this "grade."
