I love one particular feature of the prescription writer above all others - I type z and it automatically populates all my directions for a Z-pack. Reading through the Improving Amazing Meds thread I found out that this autopopulate list is 54 entries long and is separate at each computer. Could we make that longer? Like about 200? That would save me so much typing that I probably would get home in time for dinner!

Why only 200?

I'm really not sure how many different medications I'm using in my practice, but if 200 doesn't cover most of it I should probably cut down.

I am not sure why these entries are in the registry to begin with. I actually counted again, and there are 108, maybe 109. I really have no life to be sitting here at midnight counting registry entries. But, I do find it interesting that it increased in multiples of 54.

It must be a function of the program. The registry would get rather big rather fast if it just continued unchecked.

Are you talking about the Windows Registry?

216 prescriptions would probably cover 90 percent of what I prescribe. It would be nice to "Lock in" to what we want in the registry. This is so the more complex instructions such as prednisone taper can be included in the registry entry, while over simple stuff can be excluded. I know Bert was kind enough to let me know where in the Windows Registry this was found but I did lose track where it was located....

I agree with Roy; it is my sense also that 216 prescriptions would cover 90% of my prescriptions written. (Then again, why not 270? 324?)

However, when using the registry, doesn't it just populate with the most recent Rx's you have written?

If so, then all your good old reliable customized Rx's can be pushed off the top 10 list by a misspelled version that your nurse entered. You would have to be vigilant to make sure your entries didn't get corrupted.

I would prefer to have a customizable database a la the original thread "Improving AmazingMeds":

Still, an expanded registry would be something at least. It would work when it worked. I would be willing to give it a try. It doesn't seem like something very difficult, does it?

1. HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\VB and VBA Program Settings\Amazing Charts\User where user is the person who is logged in.

2. http://tinyurl.com You can make one there, but there is a link called "TinyURL" without the quotes, which you can either add to your toolbar if java works correctly or you can right click and choose "Add to favorites." Very cool, because then while in any webpage, you can choose Tiny URL from your favorites list and it takes you to the page and already has the tinyurl made.

3. Brian -> You do not have to worry about your secretary spelling Benadryl -- Benedril. If she is logged in as Betty, then there will be a Betty folder. This will only autopopulate when she is in under her account. Of course, she will continue to write Benedril scripts incorrectly.

4. Yes, new prescriptions overwrite the last script done. But, this shouldn't be a problem if you are writing the same scripts. But, it isn't 108 scripts, it is 108 variations of prescriptions, i.e. Benadryl liquid 12.5 mg/5mL, 1 tsp po tid, dispense 120 mL x 2, then the same script but 1 1/2 tsp....will be another med.

5. Yes, it was the Windows Registry.

6. It does seem to be a result of an AmazingCharts program. Not sure how it is changed. We can't change it. I would say why not make it 1,000. That would make a total of 4,000 entries. I doubt Windows would feel that too much. But, it can't be unlimited. I personally like 54 squared = 2,916.
