I know it isn't possible to run AMazing Charts on a Mac directly (without Windows emulation), but is it possible to just serve the database for other machines to use off a Mac?

Without emulation, I don't know how it would get done. AC is more than just a file share; it also runs high-port services, and all those things require Microsoft code to execute.
In theory you could run a virtual server on the Mac to accomplish this, but we are back to emulation/virtualization.

The reason I'm trying to avoid emulation is because the machine in question is an XServe G5, a PPC machine... Is it possible to run the AC server under NT4.0?

It is admirable to try and re-source an old Mac machine:^) But with the cost of a PC that will run the software more than adequately for $2-300 it makes no sense. Greg

A few points: 1. Amazing Charts uses SQL Server 2005 as its databse. This database engine REQUIRES Windows Server 2003 or higher. You cannot use NT 4.0 or any other OS previous to Server 2003. 2. To run SQL Server 2005 on a Mac you must either use emulation or use virtualization. 3. Using emulation or virtualation will introduce their own complexities and nuances. If you have issues, you may find support from AC limited. You should consult with AC if they will support their product being virutalized or running on an emulated environment. 4. As for Microsoft supporting SQL Server running in a virtualized environment, see this KB article for details: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/956893JamesNT

By the way, whatever in the world are you doing with an NT 4.0 box still in production?

I don't have an NT4.0 box; I just have an old copy laying around and know that it will run quite fast emulated on the XServe.
Would SQL server run under Windows Fundamentals for Legacy PC's?

No. Windows Fundamentals for Legacy PC's is a thin client designed to connect to a Terminal Server. To run SQL Server 2005 reliably, you MUST have one of the following:
--Windows XP Professional --Windows Server 2003 --Windows Server 2003 R2 --Windows Server 2008 --Windows Server 2008 R2 --Windows Vista Business, Enterprise, or Ultimate --Windows 7 Professional, Enterprise, or Ultimate
