Hi. We have activated our Quest HL7 interfave with AC, and Quest has downloaded their program onto our server, but we don't know where to go from here to actually import the labs into AC so we can review them, sign off on them, etc. Any help (um...Bert?) would be greatly appreciated!

On the main page, top left, click on FILE. On drop down, click IMPORT/EXPORT. Next, select LABS/RADIOLOGY. That will connect you to Quest and if there are any available labs they will import immediately. If the name of your patient does not match exactly, it will ask for you to confirm. I have only had one import that was not my patient and I just refused it. This assumes you have already put the patients into AC.

Now it goes to your inbox. When I review the Quest labs I usually want a message to go to my nurse to contact the patient. I select the sign off button which brings up a window with choice of placing message or giving orders or refills. I usually send order to nurse with my specific instructions. It is then recorded in the chart when they contact pt and what was discussed. After sending the order, I then do the final sign off which shows now what I sent to the nurse w/ instructions and that I viewed the lab.

Even more exciting is when the patient gets their second lab results from Quest. Now when you review the specific lab and double click LIPIDS or CBC, it will list horizontally to compare with your prior results. That is my favorite part.

I am in NJ and my recent meeting with Quest reps informed me that only Horizon HMO must go to LABCORP. As of 3/1/11, all oxford/united healthcare patients who use Quest will not be balance billed for the difference. Any Horizon or BC plans that have a suitcase on their insurance card are able to go to Quest. This applies in NJ.
My Labcorp rep refused to give me an interface b/c I am just solo and it was too costly for them.

To achieve paperless, we also use the Quest CARE 360 portal and the ELABCORP portal to send labslips. (The IT people from the respective companies must come to the office and install that software.) Then we send confirmations of these through the UPDOX portal to the patients. The UPDOX portal is privacy protected. We do not directly email this info.

Thanks so much for the answers! I think our installation must be faulty, because when i go to click on the import option, I get no prompts or information regarding the labs. I can't find the labs in the inbox or anything. I will contact Quest.

I'm a solo doc. We had Care360 for Quest import which they put in for free. However, it took several months, for them to finish it, it is pretty cumbersome for us to enter all data and now it's stopped working and they have not fixed it yet. Using Care360 basically helps Quest a lot, as we are doing data entry for their business, so they should fix it soon, as far as Im concerned.(We called numerous times) Luckily we have an out, most insurers are ok with LabCorp (which is not set up electronically) and so we are no longer using Quest. So far we had 1 call re wether we remember their address. We used to send them 10 lab batches a day, am curious to when they'll notice us dropping out. LabCorp faxes us results and faxes go straight to the server, no paper. We drag and drop them into AC.

love this forum. I should reply and check in more!
