At times AC refers to my user name when it should more appropriately use my professional name.

I set up AC users to log on by their first names, such as Mike and Sue.

SO if I add an allergy, the chart reads something like "Penecillin allergy added by Mike on 3/20/11". Shouldn't this reference my professional name? ie "added by M. Jones, MD"

I would like to change my user name from Mike to M. Jones, MD. to get around this.

Any thoughts or ideas?

Mike,

You can try to edit the user in administrator options.
The problem that I don't know is if AC interprets that as a new user.

I wish we could delete employees who have left.

Anyone have any other suggestions?

You can change the name at the top in admins as much as you want. That profile will simply be associated by that name. AC will use that name in some places such as the letter writer, but it only knows to use that name because it is associated with your username. You are your username. To change it would mean everything associated with the old name would not be accessible. Any messages, etc. All progress notes and prescriptions, etc. are associated with your account, and you get into your account with your username.

It may be able to be done in SQL. I think the best way would be to contact support and see if they can change your username so it is associated with everything you have.

CAVEAT: I have no idea if what I am saying is correct. Just my take on it.

When I was trialing AC on an old computer, before I put in any real patient data, I found this problem. There seemed to be no way to change the user name once it was set. You only got a chance to choose it on initial setup of a user. So, when I set up the real practice for my office, I set user names as 3 letter initials, rather than first names. To me, this seems much more professional, and clearly identifies a writer in the chart, rather than just the first name. This tip might help someone who is just getting started, thus I am noting it here.
Hopefully, support has a method to correct it after the fact.

Thanks everyone. Donna has it right from my perspective. The User name seems to be unchangeable. I can check with support.

I would have no problem not changing the user name as long as AC didn't refer to it in the record and just used initials or professional name.

Mike,
When I was setting up AC, it did come as a surprise to me that the user name was used in documentation. I would have assumed it was "private". It would be nice if AC did provide information on set up that the user name would appear in the medical record, since there is no going back once it is set.
Or, AC could just use the formal names as set in each user account in the record, as Mike says.
This is where having instructions or a manual, especially for new users, would be very helpful. The lack of documentation is definitely a negative for AC. It has taken me an extraordinarily long time to learn AC. Most of what I have learned is from the user board.

Not having an instruction manual is crazy.

There should be downloadable pdfs and they could be:

A quick user guide.

A comprehensive admin guide like most companies have.

You would be much better off posting this suggestion in the poll which will be looked at.
