Ever since I upgraded to AC 5, I've not been able to use firewall on the server.
AC tech installed the program, and we could not get the terminals to link, until the firewalls were shut off. What I mean is that the XP pro computers will link, but it runs at snail pace. And the non pro computers AC just get stuck.
I am using Mcafee, and it takes control of the firewall setting, and so you can not access windows firewall.
How do you deal with this?

AC tech support tried it for the second time, and he could not configure mcafee to run AC. Despite all of my computers having the same mcafee software.
So he configured windows firewall for AC, I uninstalled Mcaffee from the server, and installed AVG free antivirus program
Now the network is working fine with mcafee on all the computers, and AVR antivirus and windows firewall on the server.

I have had the same experience with Norton/Symantic. I am now using Microsoft's free Security Essentials, which works well with the Windows firewall.

If you have a few workstations in a peer-to-peer network, I HIGHLY RECOMMEND Microsoft Security Essentials. www.microsoft.com/security_essentialsIt is free and does a great job. If you have a server and workstations in a domain, I HIGHLY RECOMMEND Trend Micro Worry Free. www.trendmicro.comBoth do a great job of keeping the bad guys out but not messing with how the good guys do their jobs. If you need to open ports on a Windows Server firewall for SQL Server: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/968872JamesNT

I am surprised no one suggested this from the beginning.

Now all you need to do is uninstall the McAfees from your clients and install AVG. AVG Free Edition is licensed for home and non-commercial use. I'm sure it will work but as to legality... I second Microsoft Security Essentials, up to 10 computers in a commercial setting. ClamWin is about the only other one allowed in a commercial setting but lacks a resident scanner. Also, if you do have domain/cient, you can still use MSE and it still reports that it's working in SBS. Only the server will need special antivirus.
