I have been using Dragon Medical for about a year now with Amazing Charts. It has worked fairly well but there are a few things that have been frustrating and just wondering if anyone else has had the same issues and if you have any solutions.
One of my biggest complaints is when dictating on a complicated patient, I usually have put hospital records and labs, etc. into the Imported Items area. I am not able to continue to dictate while looking at these items when not on the main AC screen. I either have to print them out or keep swapping back and forth between dictating and looking at the labs/x-ray reports which gets old pretty quick. Is there a way to continue to dictate without having to toggle screens back and forth all the time?
I'm still having problems with simple words such as 'is' 'his' 'he' 'she' not being transcribed correctly and have retrained these many times but the program still is probably 25% of the time not transcribing these correctly. I've tried re-adjusting the mic, talking slower, etc., but it still seems to happen.
Finally, whenever I dictate a doctor's name, like Dr. Smith, it will do Dr. SMITH. Some of the names are not all capitalized but most are and unsure why this is the case.
Thanks for your help!

I have the same issues with the pronouns and simple words. Also for some reason DNS will add the suffix ed or an s to the end of some verbs such as discontinue (d) or (s)...don't know why. I still think it saves me considerable time compared to typing. The transcriptionist needed proofreading too way back when I used one. I guess you are dictating an impression or plan when you are switching from the note to the reports in the imported items folder??? You could open a blank note from the start button on the lower bar of your desktop, dicatate your note onto that and then copy and paste it into the AC encounter. ( That is the way I do my operative notes.)

The other thing that would work would be to use two monitors side by side, somebody suggested that at the ACUC last summer.

The his/Is thing improved a lot for me when I switched to version 10. What version are you using?

This is not about Dragaon, but is related.... My staff loves a two monitor set-up. I am starting to experiment with two monitors, one on the encounter screen and one on imported items. I believe it significantly speeds up my ability to do notes. The problem is fitting two monitors on the desk in the room where I see patients...the second monitor would make it tough to see the patient.

I am using version 10, I think there is an upgrade but that is too far down on my list of priorities right now. Also, the quality of the microphone makes ( ? a big?) difference. I am using the microphone built in to my Fujitsu tablet. DNS people would tell you that is a big handicap for accuracy. For me, wearing a headphone set or tethering myself to a desktop microphone is not worth the time I would save doing a proofread and correcting the errors. I have not checked into the bluetooth option, the last time I talked to them about this was probably more than a year ago and was told that it wasn't really up to snuff.....one day will be, but I don't know about today.
About the two monitor option, I think this is too cumbersome for the exam room ( my counter space would be way too small) but might be helpful at your desk back in your office for " end of the day" charting. One of my 3 staff uses the 2 monitor setup. But, as she has gotten more computer proficient she is using the second monitor less.

Dual screens can increase productivity if you spend any time computing, not great but any increased productivity is appreciated. Been dual screened for 2 years now, have never regretted it

hospital records and labs, etc. into the Imported Items area...swapping back and forth between dictating and looking at the labs/x-ray reports... Is there a way to continue to dictate without having to toggle screens back and forth all the time? No way to view two chart tabs at the same time. As the saying goes, this is a feature, not a bug -- it allows you to switch between different sections of the chart by clicking the tabs, without multiple windows overlapping. Maybe in version 7? I'm still having problems with simple words such as 'is' 'his' 'he' 'she' not being transcribed correctly and have retrained these many times but the program still is probably 25% of the time not transcribing these correctly. I've tried re-adjusting the mic, talking slower, etc., but it still seems to happen. This is signal to noise. Strategies include careful enunciation (emphasize the "huh" sound in his, versus is, etc) or a better mike. Some of the newer speech mikes have impressive accuracy and noise cancellation, which are important in Dragon Medical. Also, if you are using Dragon Medical version 10, make sure that you have upgraded to the 10.1 upgrade . Finally, whenever I dictate a doctor's name, like Dr. Smith, it will do Dr. SMITH. Some of the names are not all capitalized but most are and unsure why this is the case. I suggest running the Dragon Medical Acoustic Optimizer. You can also use the Accuracy Center tool to remove the all caps version of "Dr SMITH" from your user vocabulary.

Hi John,
I want to use dragon at home. Since my server is at office. I have to remotely work on the server from home. Can I use dragon remotely from home?
Thanks,

Wow -- thanks for all of the great suggestions/help about Dragon Medical. Definitely some things to try/do this coming week. I am using the Speech Mike II and Dragon Medical 10.1 version.

as long as it looks like this discussion is sort of wrapped....
also having difficulties with dragon (some as above as well). 1) If often moves the curser into the vital signs area and I have to manually get it back.
2) It will transcibe my words and leave it in the yellow box for a few seconds without it dropping it into ac (even when it got it right)...anyway to manually speed this up?

Vitals will go into height when dragon hears 'in', as AC takes 'in' as a command to go to 'inch' in the vitals. You can usually flush the buffer by ending your utterance clearly. A period will do this. Sometimes other dragon speed settings can be tweaked. Feel free to PM me.
