I started using Dragon Dictation 10.1 on a Win 7 OS, a relatively slow duo core computer with 7GB RAM.

If I finished a chart and make a letter using the print chart, and send to referral doctor button.... Using the letter maker.... Once finished, I hit print.

Then it say to save a copy of the correspondent. I hit yes. Then it sends the letter to the printer.

It seems at this point, an error message will pop up, saying that the printed letter is the only copy of the document, and that it was not able to save the letter. Then you close the applet, then AC automatically shut down.

This has happened several times. I wonder if the printer driver, the letter applet, the AC printing spool, and Dragon is over utilizing the 7gb of RAM?

If so, I wonder if putting Dragon to sleep will prevent this problem? Adding more RAM? Or is it a processor thing?

You certainly have enough RAM for all the programs, including Dragon Medical 10.1. I am using essentially the same setup (Intel Core 2 Duo, Dragon Med 10.1, AC 5.029) plus my email program, Chrome browser and Java 6 (running Updox), with 4 GB of RAM -- and no crashes with the letter writer.

My thoughts are:
-- Is the OS Win 7 64 bit? Some printer drivers need to be updated for 64bit.
-- Network problem (since error happens saving the letter to the database). Can you reproduce the error/crash on another client computer, or on the computer with the AC database?

I am thinking the problem might be RAM related, as I had these issues more when I used a windows XP computuer with 2GB RAM in the past, with a "server" that had 3 GB of RAM and Vista.

Now we have server with Win 7 pro and 6gb RAM, and the crash is occuring with a terminal running Win 7 home premium with 7gb RAM and Dragon NS.

I am thinking of some possibility of over using of resources somehow. Maybe I'll reinstall the printer driver with the "built in" win 7 driver on the computer, instead of loading the disc that came with the printer.

Win 7 auto install the driver when you plug it it, but I opted to plug in the printer and installed the software off the disc. It might not be optimized for 64 bit Win 7? The other thing I might do is put DNS to sleep before closing so that it is not picking up the background noise and start sucking up resources.

I really don't believe that this is a resource problem, but rather a problem in handing off [or getting back] application control from the printing sub-system.

Do you print to the printer from other programs without difficulty? Can you copy and paste the text into Word/OOWriter and print it without difficulty? Is there another printer on the network to try printing against?

What version of AC are you running?

For context, I have an AC installation that has intermittent problems printing scripts since upgrading to 5.1.5 that causes AC to lock up and has to be force-quit. Support hasn't solved this, and so I wonder if there is a problem lurking in the printer interface.
