We have just come across the need to copy all of a patient's records because he is moving, and have major issues that tech support has not resolved for us. We are trying to print to CutePDF so we can put it on a disk, since I don't see an export button for anything other than that pitiful CCD/CCR form. Going to past encounters > print entire file only prints the first page of the encounter notes if we select print entire chart detail. If we click all items to print, very little of the chart prints out. Each of the imported items seems to have its own print window. This ought to be a seamless process, but the solution suggested to my office person was to print everything out on paper and then scan it!! Now, that is just nuts. Some day we are going to close our practice, and we expect to be able to hire a high school student to copy these records to disk in no more than 15 - 30 seconds per patient. We cannot spend 20 uncompensated minutes per patient for 5000 patients. How are people handling export of all the records for a patient?

There is another pdf program called PDF reDirect which allows you to gather multiple files together into one PDF document. You just have to print all of the files that AC creates into one document and it is all together. Really only takes a few minutes, but more complex than cutePDF, which we also use.

David,
I agree that the process as it now stands is pretty cumbersome. We use Updox (and as I recall, you do, too). We print each item to Updox and then group them together and send them as one document. You can at least print all encounters at once; it still entails opening each imported document and "printing" them individually. Not great, but it certainly beats the "print and re-scan" approach.
If someone has a better way, we would love to hear it.

I use export to a PDF printer of all pt. progress notes.
I then look at AC ID number - use a program called Pdfill (from PDFILL.com) to go into IMPORTED ITEMS under that pt. number and click all - imports into one file and combine with output of all progress notes and burn to disk - takes about 2 minutes if you are good. Only issue is letters to patients - they are HTML and you have to convert.

I have had several conversations with an AC Programmer and as soon as he can he is going to look at how to make this seamless - in particular for all files including imported items and ones by date range (1/1/10-12/31/10 for instance) as these are important and he told me he would figure out a way to make this work.

I do not even have that option. When I go to export, the only options are html or txt or "unicode" html or text? I am moving my office and going PT and I need to be able to give patients their charts quickly, or a file. Can someone talk me through it? This is getting ridiculous printing the files. Knowing the healthcare law will require portability and being able to hand a patient a USB with their info-you would think this was fixed already.

The workaround solutions above will prove helpful, but I agree, we need something really easy. It would be lovely also if the file names gave some hint of what they were, rather than some jumbleofletters.pdf name. Just because I don't have to see that patient again does not mean I don't take pity on my successor.

Which brings up another question; what is the expected standard of record import/export? If the CCD/CCF form exists, is that considered a transfer of records? If not, how are we supposed to use it? Can we send everything as one big jumbled PDF file and let the next doc sort it out, or are we expected to separate labs, letters, notes, etc?
