Hello Everyone,

I purchased AC and anticipate to officially use it Jan 1, 2011.

In the meantime, I am trying to familiarize myself with the software. I am creating mock patients and mock "Encounters" to see how they turn out.
Is it possible to then delete these encounters and/or delete these mock patients?

I also just purchased a scanner and plan to use Dragon.

I appreciate any other tips/purchases/recommendations you may have for this novice but enthusiastic member!

Welcome to AC. You not only have purchased an emr, you have gained a great support community. Between the boards and GAS (Guardian Angel Suppor) you will find lots of help.

I do not use Dragon, but there are lots of folks who do.

Consider searching old posts with keywords (dragon, scanner, etc)

Also post your questions as specifically as possible. The folks in this community are very generous and go way above and beyond what I ever dreamed. I am not the most techy person,but am always glad to help.

Also, scan the posts daily. You'll begin to see folks with similar interests or questions.

Hi Doc Niko, welcome to AC and a very smart decision in purchasing a fantastic EMR.
Don't create too many mock patients, you cannot ANY patients (only inactivate them).

I have one mock patient "Bill Gates." If you have dozens, before you go live you may want to start over with a clean install of AC and just have one or two test patients at most.

You are smart.....practice and play with AC before you go live. Run mock scenarios, like how to send messages or reply to messages. How to document office visits quickly. how to write rx's, and get signed up w/ the ERx verification. Search the old posts, there are tons of great replies about equipment, or post specific questions into specific threads/topics.

Again, welcome. You have the benefit of many very skilled and knowledgible users on the user board. They are all willing to help you get started.

Also remember that your 3 month trial does not begin until you enter more than 10 patients so don't go over that and you can play with it as long as you need to before taking the plunge. Have fun.

I leave my 3 or 4 test patients on the database... there is always something I want to test and they come in handy.

I too have 4 patients, Test Patient, Nobook Patient, Newborn Patient, and New Patient.

I test Rx stuff, use them to demo stuff to staff or residents. Test actually has a fairly long chart.

This may be a bit redundant, but to reinforce the above:
Welcome to AC. Your general approach sounds like a good one.
Mock patients are a good idea. They cannot be deleted, though they can be "inactivated". One of the features of AC is that once patients or encounters are "in" they are "in forever"... for better or worse. Inactivation means that you will never see them on any patient list (unless you choose to). There is really no need to create a large number of them; just keep working with a few.

One thing we all learn in transitioning to an EMR is that it is a process that is probably more complex than what you envision going in. It is also an ongoing process...so as Adam, Wendell, and David say, you will have need for test patients for years.

As specific questions come up, feel free to ask....

He can reinstall and restart with a completely new database to eliminate the current one.

Another option is to make a dummy group and then reinstall with all the proper demographics.
