I talked to them on Monday for some other reason and I got the usual. "It is almost ready. Should be released in the next couple of weeks"

It is hard to believe that we are still awaiting 5.1 and they are not ready with it since it has been promised for months, even worse we have now been awaiting 6.0 for over a year now; now it is almost the end of the year and 5.1 is not even out! I hope they are beefing up the development team since things seem to be grinding to a halt at the company in terms of development! The last update was 5.029 in June or so and that was only due to a critical issue. Last real update was 02/10 almost 9 months ago. I know I know things are being worked on etc... we cannot see what is in the works. However, eventually we need to see results and that is what really counts! I thought that is where the price increase is going?

I am also anxiously awaiting the upgrade. However, I understand that due to the permutations and combinations of changes and interactions in subroutines, problems with software development tend to grow exponentially as new features are added. What I REALLY don't want is a buggy program that was released in haste.

It is just frustrating since we are expecting things and keep waiting. But I agree with you.

It's hard to believe that we are still waiting for the release of the PM.

I have a feeling that the coming version will be the newer V6.0. John has indicated that he might do that to avoid the cost of certification twice. To have it ready for the PM module that is supposed to be released in the first quarter 2011. I am just guessing.

I know, I know...
Here's the update. V5.1 is just about there. It has successfully completed alpha and first beta and is pretty damn stable.
Yet, we continue to find small issues that could impact a number of clients, so I've held off moving it to wider beta (open to new clients and any folks with Guardian Angel Support & Maintenance). Currently we are exploring an issue that might make it not install on Vista 64 bit systems - which might affect a significant portion of our clients. I'll know more today about this problem. There are a few iPhone issues that are getting fixed as well.
I suspect by week's end to have the open beta available, but it isn't that we are slacking. On the contrary - our Dev/QA team is working late every night finding the issues, reprogramming to fix them, rebuilding the package, and testing the many layers (regression testing).
All that while we also prepare for our Meaningful Use Certification Test scheduled for 3 weeks from today (12/22/10) - which is the certification of V6, which has the ONC-ATCB requirements for the government reimbursement. (It may even make sense, since that version is expected to be released in early 2011, to not update to 5.1 and wait for 6 - depends on if you are dying for ePrescribing renewals, the iPhone App, and other enhancements.)
Again, sorry for the delay - but given how we used to release and then have our community be the QA team with build after build and install after install required, now we are working and testing to the point where the program should be pretty damn stable and free of significant issues.

I personally would like to see fixes to issues many of us have begged for for years rather than see enhancements, including the PM.

All those new features are great but what about merging charts AC does a bad job of creating duplicate charts all the time.

Agree with Bill. We would rather learn how to use the new features/changes in 5.1 for a while before we begin to grapple with the PM module.

I agree 100% with Leslie. I also think Jon's answer would be to not promise due dates. A lot of companies don't and they are way better off for it. I will let you know how the alpha and beta testing is going. Oh wait....I don't know how to get the alpha and the pre-release beta versions.

You have to go down this dark alley and knock on the 3rd door on the Left and say "Bert sent me"
(Bert would be excluded since he can't send himself).
They have the secret test copy of 5.1, obtained from the Tyrolian elves at the AC factory. You thought getting the latest Windows 8 preview was hard... ha.
Now if I could only remember where "THEY" said that alley was...

Wendell,
Even if you had, say, a beta copy of 5.1, even without going down the alley, I would hesitate to install it on a network with 15-20 clients.
Because, even if all was good, as soon as 5.1 gold drops, then the IT elf [bullwhip or no] has to go deal with all those machines again.
I think that besides getting our current mobile app released, I might work on an app that used the accelerometer to simulate a bull-whip on my Droid-X. Yep, that definitely sounds like more fun. Bet I could get Bert to install THAT app.

I hadn't thought through what the name should be, perhaps "Durin's Bane" or "Whip of the Balrog"?

Thanks Jon,
I'm more deliberate in my software upgrades and greatly appreciate the update. I also would like any upgrades to be very stable which is the most important thing in a busy office.
I'm patient. Keep putting out an excellent product and I'll wait on it. Don't put out something and it run horribly just to "hurry it up".
I've never had a patient worry me about how long their operation is going to take, only the outcome/result of the operation and to assure it was done to the best of my ability. I would hope AC does the same.

Any possibility for a patient portal to so patients can enter all of their demographics, insurance info, allergies, meds, past medical history prior to coming to the office. That would save more paper in the office and help us have more accurate information prior to seeing the patient. Maybe it's a pipe dream.

Superb Wendell. That may be exactly what we need. We'll see what it looks like next year.
Hopefully I can do it without a charge to the patients and more of a service which will aid my office staff as well as provide a convenience to my patients.

I am happy that AC is investing time to make a stable release version of 5.1, even to the extent of waiting simply for V6 to come out. I don't like past buggy versions of AC, very annoying when trying to see patients and multitasking.......poof the whole program freezes up or that dreaded "runtime error." I hate those.

I think 5.1 will be good, the average user does not want the headaches associated with alpha/pre beta testing. I do remember a time when I barely found time to upgrade 12 computers and another release came out, just be patient.

Travis:
I am looking into instant medical history to let patients basically check in online.
I hope that they relase 5.1 and not make us wait till v6. Especially since right now i am using phreesia as a check in system and they tell me that with 5.1 and phreesia, everything will go over from one to the other in the demographics portion.

Anyone else on here using phreesia pads? Anyone know if the update included the "talking" between AC and phreesia?

Ketan,
Please stop hijacking the thread. This thread in overwhelmingly about 5.1, and then AC has one of its biggest breakthroughs and best version releases since its infancy announced by Jon himself, and you are talking about Phreesia pads. Please open a new thread. It's a good topic, and I am sure will stir a lot of interest, but it doesn't belong on this one.

Good question on the first. I am guessing yes. I would ping support and ask.
On the second, I would just let that go. I am sure they are working on it everyday. If I had to guess, I would say March. I think the speed of which Jon gets them out is better than 80% of most software companies.
Have a nice day!
