All computers have Win 7, 3.2 GHz, 4 GB RAM
At first, tech support found that there was insufficient free RAM (although plenty in standby).
Fresh reboots all around, turned off Norton AV, Windows Firewall, plenty of free RAM (1000 on main computer, 1600+ on three different workstations) ...
Takes more than 30 seconds just to go into Add New Patient, long delays as well for any types of updates, going into e-prescribing, etc. Fairly quick on server.
Other apps on same network *extremely* fast and stable ...
Any clues?

all wired, gigabit. On the same network, another app which uses Pervasive SQL, works beautiful and is extremely fast. One tech person suggested that the SQL's might be conflicting, so I even uninstalled the Pervasive SQL on both the main computer and one of the workstations. Still, the same problems.

In case you haven't tried yet, open Amazing Utilities and go to Advanced Options & choose "Test speed to/from databases". Do both on main computer & client(s). What speeds?

yes i had tried that. over 22 secs!
Worked with Mark today; he was quite helpful.
we ended up moving the server to a different machine.
working well from one workstation after setting the port 61067 exceptions for inbound/outbound, udp/tcp. Hopefully the others will be fine once i make the same changes.

After all this, it turns out that we may have a bad router (though it was working fine with our PM software - I imagine because it runs leaner ; ).
Any specific recommendations on routers, anyone?

Any specific recommendations on routers, anyone? Gigabit. Also consider gigabit cards for the clients & main computer. Reliable cards can be had for $20 per card. Discussion on routers is here.

Netgear WNDR-3700 gigabit router is working very nicely.
Now AC and PM application are both running very fast and there is no conflict at all between Microsoft SQL and Pervasive SQL.
