I wish on that brightest star...
1)That we had a way to add a pharmacy that isn't already in the system. Or is there a way?
2)That we could have 2 preferred pharmacies for each patient. A local pharmacy and a mail order. Like CVS & Medco.
3)That we could input the preferred pharmacies directly with a legible form instead of waiting until you select one to write the Rx.

Re: 1) I believe the pharmacy has to opt-in to the Surescripts network by calling or emailing Surescripts. I believe you can request from Surescripts too, but when I did it they claimed they didn't see the practice as subscribing.
2& 3 sound neat

I just wish the preferred pharmacy would take. Number 2 is possible (we previously used the Allscripts standalone prescription program that did this) and it was very cool. Let's hope future AC releases catch up.

My preferred usually "sticks". My real wish would be look-up by phone number rather than name and address! I keep Googling pharm phone numbers to ID the pharmacy.

I find pharmacies by zip code or town. Of course out here in the boondocks, that is easy. Never alot of pharmacies in a zip code.

Ah, the advantages of rural life. My practice zip code alone includes 13 pharmacies. 2 are CVS. 5 are RiteAid. And that is just one (of many) zips.

I haven't been able to find any mailorder pharmacies. I have tried plugging in all the info on the prescription bottles. Medco for example is nowhere to be found.

I agree with the first two wishes, for your third wish, for the pharmacy to already be there, you can have someone put in demographics. We always ask when we fill/update the demographics on any pt. We discovered that when the MD send the eRx, the pharmacy changes in the demographics to the last one an Rx was sent.

Wayne, you can search for a pharmacy by phone/fax number. 1. Go to the admin section,on your Rx status page (Control+ P for those who use the shortcuts) 2. Admin 3. Location pharmacies 4. Add pharmacy, and just like in the older versions, you can search. You will find the mail order pharmacies there as well. Medco is listed as Medco Fax Only, for example.

Try searching for MEDCO fax only 800-837-0959 phone number You will also be able to find Caremark Express Rx ( choose the address with the RxHub) Rightsource is actually called Humana Pharmacy
Remember, the info on pt bottles are for the patients, so make sure you are using MD phone/fax numbers when searching. We usually search for the mail order pharmacies by the fax number provided for the providers on the forms.

I haven't been able to find any mailorder pharmacies. I have tried plugging in all the info on the prescription bottles. Medco for example is nowhere to be found. I find Medco without any problem. I just write in "medco" and it comes right up. Make sure all the other fields are blank. Express scripts on the other hand.....

For Express Scripts: search by name, add the pharmacy, click on the highlighted name once added, and it give you the option to change the fax number.. change it to 877-895-1900. I hope this helps.

oh, I know Medco is in there. But we had a patient recently whose preferred pharmacy was not in there. Can't think of the name of the pharmacy now though. If I can add it under admin that's a good thing.

So are you talking about the Express Scripts fax number (as opposed to e-rx)? Can't you just get the number from a prescription request they send?

Tried Chazli's idea on express scripts..did not work for me. Any other ideas? I was able to add express scripts this way: open up the Surescripts window by clicking on the online services box then eRX as usual. Click on the admin window. Then "location pharmacy list". Then "add pharmacy". Put Express scripts into the pharmacy name box on the bottom right. Then search. Click on the box next to Express scripts and then "add pharmacy". Voila! Thanks to those with helpful comments.
