I skimmed the HL7 interface documentation. I only see demographics (inbound), not demographics (outbound). I was considering having staff enter demographics in AC and then have the interface load that into our PM. Is that not possible?

If not, if we go the other way, does the interface capture the data from the PM software into AC immediately?

Thank you for any insights,

Actually I received an email response from Claire Rich at Amazing Charts. She pointed out that this can be activated in the Admin Options by selecting Interfaces. "Amazing Charts Demographics" is down near the bottom under the MISCELLANEOUS heading. By double-clicking "Try It" you get a free 31 day trial. Then it is a mere $1 for purchase. It will be a good entry toward eventual full interfacing.

Thank you, Claire

That's good. But, if they are going to sell it for $1, they may as well give it away. smile

I would like to see them increase that fee but reduce the fee of interfaces : ) It seems to me that the price-per-practice for interfaces is out of line with Amazing Charts' reasonable pricing structure. It seems that most of the work would be required on the side of the PM software. I would imagine that there is a standard intermediate HL7 file structure that acts as a bridge between the two applications. It would seem appropriate to charge extra for fields that do not fit commonly-used items, but for more standard situations, a more modest price seems appropriate. Moreover, there should be a reduced fee for subsequent practices that use this same interface since most of the work had been done in the first iteration.

I notice that you are a prolific poster, Bert. Can I ask you whether you are anxious to get the PM portion that is forthcoming, or are you happy with the interface approach?

Best,

It would seem that way, until you knew the price or interfaces for other EMRs. $3000. Annually.

That is crazy!!

I am still not giving up. If the interface for EZ-Claim is free, it should be free for anyone who uses the same approach as does EZ-claim. All that is required is to read the HL-7 file automatically produced by AC. The work is on the side of the PM software, once the original interface to the bridge file has been taken care of. If standards are followed, no further work is necessary on the part of AC. I like Jon's philosophy: Just because the other guys charge outrageous fees, AC does not have to : )

I will likely not uses the new PM nor do we use an interface. We just use a 3rd party practice management software.

Bert, who do you use and how easy is it for you to transmit the data back and forth? I know you use alot of misc software programs as well.

The interface allows the demographic information, CPT codes, and ICD9 codes to be automatically transferred from AC to PM software, saving one from double entry.
