Does anyone know if it is possible to treat at least two patients at once. We had a brother and sister in the office this morning and the doctor wanted to be able to be in both their charts at once and could not. AC wanted him to save one before entering the other. Is this possible or not?

It is possible to TREAT 2 patients at once, but you cannot have 2 CHARTS OPEN at once in AC.
I see siblings together all the time, you just have to be sequential in charting. That might be a good thing as it decreases the likelihood of cross charting, but I would rather be able to open 2 charts at once as well.

That's not what I wanted to report back but Thank Your for our quick response. I'll add this to my growing wish list. Thanks again.

Bert will tell you to get a virtual machine. Or if they are triplets, 2 virtuals.

Yes, a virtual machine (with two OS if triplets) would work or you could even have two computers for that matter. But, I'm with Wendell on this one. I have been using AC for close to seven years now, and I have never found one time where opening two charts would be advantageous. Maybe I am missing something. What would be the big advantage.
I sometimes see four patients in a room, and to be honest I do use a bit of an assembly line. Do the four paper charts for well child, do the four electronic charts, then put everyone on the table and go down the line. Or something like that.
You would run the risk of error that way.

I have a laptop in my office and sometimes take a wireless tablet to the exam room usually to show labs to a patient or communicate with the deaf. I have slowly adjusted to having one or two charts open at a time, but can only change them rapidly with dragon thru a macro. One of my PAs uses two computers, but the other does fine with one. I find long encounters to need the second computer to do quick work on other patients or sign off notes or lab (mild multitasking)

That's a good solution, but I would think it would be a bit difficult to have two physical computers in the same room. (Works for you, and that is all that matters ) I think Jon was kidding, BUT...if you are going to at all consider two computers, then I would strongly suggest a virtual machine with its own OS. It IS its separate computer within the other computer. It would work much more seamlessly, plus you would have the benefits of a VM.

Oh, lol. I thought you were. Either way. Actually, in the situation he is describing, a VM would work great.
The other thing about VMs, is they are so cool. You can actually set up what hardware you want.

The other thing you could do is to forward one chart and switch to the other chart, not the fastest thing in the world, but sometimes comes in handy.
I, for one, would probably like to have 2 charts open at a time. I realize this runs the risk of charting on the wrong patient. I am so used to doing it this way that it no longer bothers me MUCH.
It has been on the wish list for a long time.

I have laptops in each room and do have multiple charts open at once....just not in the same room but I could bring an extra laptop into the room as suggested above.

One instance I would have loved to have two charts open at once was when I wanted to just copy and paste family history from one sibling to another. Another would be to look up social history of couples . . .
Maybe all these problems got solved in version 5. I am still on the upgrade path.

I would love to be able to identify members of a family and populate all with the same demographics i.e. address etc. Also would like to be able to pull up all the members of a family when they have different last names.

When I am busy I have one computer in my office which I use most. Then for quicker visits I have another computer in the hall that I can open another chart while my initial patient gets changed for Physical Exam
