I have been considering writing this for a long time, but held off because I just didn't want to come across unfair. But, I no longer can no comment on it, because I think it is an important concept. Frankly, I can't even believe it happens.

While it doesn't happen often, there are times when a user will ask a question which requires more than a short response. They may ask about their network connectivity or wonder why they can't install 5.0.29. This brings a response from quite a few users trying to help. I have to say that on one particular question where the user stated he/she needed to go back to 5.0.28, but couldn't find it, I actually found one of mine and uploaded it to my site where it could be downloaded. I also provided detailed instructions on registering .dlls that would likely have fixed the problem or may have.

Others added good suggestions as well. Suffice it to say that if any of these were tried, the results were not shared in the thread.

Not only is it rewarding to know you helped someone, if the author of the question reports that a suggestion fixed the problem, everyone learns from it.

And, more importantly, it is simply rude to ask a question, have users spend their time helping, only to hear nothing back.

Would you call one of your sub-specialists, get an answer, and then not thank them?

People should have to read above comment and take post test before being allowed to post on forum. Small hoop to jump through.

I think this most often happens when a user doesn't have their notifications setup properly. If they don't check back regularly to the user board, they may not even know that there were responses.

When you post a question stating that you can't install the latest version of AC, you can't go back cause you can't obtain 5.0.28, support has been unable to help and you are unable to run your office, I would think they must go back to look at their question.

It seems obvious that they have either given up or gotten their answer somewhere else and not returned to their own question.

This isn't a question about how to write a script from the patient list where the answer takes all of five seconds. I have seen others and myself write eight, nine and ten page paragraphs with bullet type answers to a question about a network only to hear nothing back.

@mkweiss That's actually a great idea. I did set that up in the preferences of the userboard, but it was turned off by someone (who I cannot mention). It was a one-time thing. I have also in a nice way PMd people to let them know it would be helpful to go back and respond. Some of these issues arise when one person asks the question for another user who is usually a doctor.
