I finally bit the bullet and tried to upgrade to version 5, but wanted to explore it first. So I installed 3.7 and copied the practice files to the home kitchen computer, and the old version 3.7 ran fine. The install worked without a hitch, and I was able to start Amazing Charts and it migrated the data. However, when I tried to run the 3 to 5 tuner, it could not seem to find the path (there is no location shown after tuner start up, just "_______ is the location of your main database"). If I push the button anyhow, the same line changes to "There was an error!", and a UpdateTable pop up says an unspecified 3001 error occurred. Using Amazing utilities to reset path did not seem to make a difference.
It's difficult to ask for Angel help since this is always going to be a night project at home. Ideas? Thanks.

Addendum: I'm running Windows XP Pro SP3 as administrator, Dell Inspiron with 2GB of ram. I have AC in c:\AC, and shared it even tough there is no other connecting computer.

I presume you did run the V5 INSTALLER first and then the V5 TUNER If not try the V5 INSTALLER first and then the V5 TUNER Grenville

If it let you point to the location of your database then Type in c:\AC and see if that solves your problem. The other way to do it is to Delete AC from your home computer and start with a clean install of V5 and then restore the back up from your 3.7 version that you haveto your newly instaled V5 That should work Grenville

Thanks.
There is no place to type in a path in the version of the tuner I downloaded.
I can clean-install V5, but how do I "restore the back up"? Is there a function on V5 that reads old Access databases?

Go to your main Amazing Chart folders and open it via Windows Wxplorer and you will see a BACK/RESTORE utility.exe file Click on that file an you are on your way...

I don't think you can simply run the backup utility and restore the 3.7 Access database to version 5. If so, why would you need to do the migration?
Jack, while you can update from 3.7.15 to 5.1, have you tried (just for kicks) to install 4.0 and upgrade and migrate to it, run its database tuner, then upgrade from 4 to 5?
Support is open until 9 am EST, so you should be able to get some help.

Do the chat thing up until then. Usually, someone comes on within one minute. I would definitely try upgrading to 4.0 first though.

That's the problem. My upside down day end at 8pm (PDT), then I eat dinner, then I play and go to bed at 1 or so. So play time is about 0000 EDT
In any case, I bit another bullet and bought a IBM server off eBay with SBS 2008. When I get it, I will finally get off the Windows Home Server and have a domain. What do you do suggest I do?
1) install AC 3.7 2) copy my current files over the installed blank files 3) upgrade to v4, migrate, tune 4) upgrade to v5, tune
Do I have this correct?
Thanks.

You must have 3.7 and your actual database installed somewhere. I would leave it there. I would then back it up multiple times both using AC's backup and a backup program. Make sure you use the AC utility to clean up and compact the database. Install 4.0 to your new server. You shouldn't need to use the database as the database will be blank. During the instll, it will ask you to migrate the data. Browse to the data and migrate it. It will then ask for the tuner. IF YOU GET ANY ERROR MESSAGES AT ANY POINT, POST THEM HERE. If you are able to migrate your data over and run the database tuner so that everything is working, then be happy, jump in the air, go get a beer and leave it along for a day. Next day, run AC Utility again. Make a backup and put it on your desktop. Install v5 preferably to a different drive. After install, go through setup with your same name and demographics. Some users like to even make a fake patient. Do a note with the fake patient to show that it works. If it does, then simply restore the database using the backup you created from v4. I know this is an extra step, but in going from 3.7 to 5, you are moving from Access to SQL Server, and it may be easier to do it in two steps. Otherwise, install v5 on the server, it will ask for you to migrate your database from 3.7. But, you have tried that with issues. If you go that route and there are issues, post the EXACT error message(s) here. I am up at 1 am generally, so I could try to remote in and help, although it has been awhile since I upgraded. My other HUGE suggestion would be to go to: http://www.trainsignal.com/Small-Business-Server-2008-Training.aspxand watch this video over and over and over. Setting up a domain is easy, but it is not easy. Even http://connect can be a little difficult at times. You will now be using Active Directory. Do you have a static IP. To get the full use of a domain, you may want a static IP.

If you are using Time-Warner, etc. and do not have a static IP, call them and tell them you have been a customer since 1901, and you would like a very good deal on 7 IP addresses. You only need one or two, but they come in bunches.

Thank you. I will report in a week or so. Hopefully they will ship the server by the next weekend.
