I just re-discovered the orders section with immunizations and wondered does anyone use this and how can it work.
(I dislike the orders section, and checked it out a bit while I was playing with V5 before implementation. I literally forgot about the ordering immunizations, and I to a lot of them, because it seemed impractical.)
That being said, did I miss anything?

No, Wendell, you did not and I am glad I can commiserate with you on this. Two points:
Even if you did make all the decisions on vaccines and not your MA, I don't see how you can a) take the time to choose them from the order section and send them to your MA and, then, b) hope that she gets in front of her PC and decides to refresh the messages to see the orders. God forbid, she or he is in another room doing a neb or shots or whatever. I would rather put up the red flag or talk to her in the hall. She will know it is a well child who needs shots.
For me, I would rather make my office efficient by delegating the decision on vaccines to my MA who now knows the vaccine schedule both on time and behind better than I. There will still be areas that I am better in, which is why I check them on the Superbill. It is so much better for her to go over the shots at triage, do the VIS and have them drawn up by the time the patient is ready to leave. Plus, when I am behind, it makes much more sense for her to have already given them.
Maybe I am too trusting.

Since we are one man outfits, it is easy to just say "He needs a 2 month" and it happens.
But with larger groups, forwarding to a nurses station might make sense. (of course, as you said, they will have to refresh)
Oh yeah, this is one area they need to improve. Might we need to approach another No complaint day again?

Bert, I agree with your methodd. I delegate the vacine matter to my RNs who are well trained and get additional week long yearly conference training in vaccines.
I just met with them last week to smooth out the process and as we are doing with our bright futures process, they are planning ahead and reviewind the child's vaccine status before they arrive and making decisions about what is due, getting vis etc. Unfortunately our state databases ( we have north dakota and montana) do not interact with AC so now we are tasked with deciding whether to back enter everything into AC or someday hope there will be an interface.
Meanwhile, we are double entering vaccines into ac and the database, Time consumiong.
