I'm still playing around with the demo version of AC. Hoping to go live by September. I teach PA students and I am wondering if any of you have students use AC? If so, how are you setting it up.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Welcome to AC Marty. I suppose there are two ways to do this. Others may do it differently. If you give the PA student medical student privileges and chose your name as preceptor, they can use the chart as if they were physicians only it will need to be co-signed. The charts would be sent to them by the nurse just as you. After they finished the chart, they would sign it. It would then show up in your inbox to be cosigned. Opening the chart will bring you to a window that I find a little non-user friendly as the entire note is in a row and difficult to read. Holding the cursor over any of the boxes will allow you to read their note. There is a place for comments, which will go in the patient's chart. There is a place for feedback, which will go to the student. You then sign it off.

Another option would be for the PA to simply work under your name. When I am getting behind, I sometimes allow my medical student to do this. I still am able to review and change things.

I will have the resident sit down at the AC demo/video page and learn the basics in about an hour. I then have them shadow me for the rest of the day. That is usually sufficient for them to be functional and they pick up little things along the way.

Thanks for the info Bert. I have to say I've found this forum to be invaluable in helping figure out solutions to things.

Wendell, I'm curious if you give your students Medical Student privileges or do they write notes under your user name?

thanks again

No, have them under them under their own account where they need to have the note cosigned.

I have students log in as a midlevel I named "Student Intraining." I have them set up as a provider that cannot sign off on a chart. I then review the note directly in the field boxes or by clicking on the View Draft button. I have the student type in "Assessed by [name]" at the end of the plan.
