I think a while back there was a mention that AC was making a practice management program. I haven't read about of anything since. I'm just wondering what sort of features that everyone is looking for in the practice management and what would be a "killer feature" to have in a practice management program?

I would be ecstatic if I could bill medicare and medicaid claims directly through their web portals. I understand this is theoretically possible, but I have not yet figured out how to get it done. I would like to avoid paying a clearinghouse and outside billing service big $$$. Thanks in advance!

In the state of Georgia, Medicaid has an web portal you can bill directly and you get a reply within seconds and you can correct the bill in real time at the moment until it is paid. UHC has the same feature. Aetna goes thru a third party so it is not an instant reply but you can do it without a third party software. With EZclaim you can bill direct to Medicare. With PostnTrack, you can bill Cigna and it is free, you can also bill UHC but it does not give you an instant reply. But you would be managing your own billing and well, that comes with a whole lot of headaches and potential for errors and denials and very importantly ignored claims, unless you can get an instant decision like Georgia Medicaid and United Health Care. You can go to each one of your insurance carrier websites and explore the possibilities. Don't forget to get paid electronically whenever possible and get ERA's.

For Noridian, you need dial up which we don't have in the office.

Does using the DSHS website obligate you to use only their electronic billing? I'm looking for some instructions to see how much data entry is required using this portal. I remember in the pre-HIPPA days, there was a wonderful MAA ASP software in which all I needed to do was enter the patients MAA number, DOS, CPT, ICD-9 only. Is this new system just as simple? They apparently got rid of this system due to "HIPPA" but interestingly, DSHS does not need to (nor does it attempt to ) comply with HIPPA by using modifiers, POS codes, TOS codes that are non-standard.

I've been very busy with an ill Mom (and am now in the process of moving her from CA to WA, and into an assisted living facility - and yes, I do visit pts there) plus dealing with local politics (I don't belong to the good 'ole boys network - sorry, but I had to get that one off my chest). Now back to the topic....

Roy...I don't know about the having to use the MAA site exclusively. I was using it until Practice Mate came along. I didn't care for it...everything had to be entered each and every time. I think you can use templates, but I couldn't figure it out. I didn't use the old system, so I cannot compare the two. I will say, I like Practice Mate much better.
