On the imported items in v5, it appears they took away the ability to sign off on an item and simulatneously send a note to someone in the office. Am I missing that somewhere?

I thought that was a great feature so I could review an imported referral for "thyroid nodules" and send my office staff a note to make sure we get the thyroid ultrasound.

Now I have to remember the patient's name, sign off the note, close what i'm doing and go to messages to send a note? Surely I'm missing something.

Before you sign off completely there is a box for SEND A REMINDER if you send a reminder and do not put in a date it simply sends it as a yellow highlighted e-mail right then.

I agree I miss the Sign Off and Send option from the previous version. What I currently do is minimize the imported item, highlight the patient's name from my inbox list, hit reply and send a message to the appropriate staff member about what I want done. I use templates for most of it and the message I send to the staff is a duplicate of the message that I put in the sign off box.
If you hit the reply button it also opens up the option of sending an order, writing a prescription etc by using the buttons in the lower right hand side of the message box. Unfortunately if you write an order it does not appear in the message box to save to the chart.....the whole box closes sending you back to the inbox with a blank message pane..confusing, sorry.
I figured that they would get around to fixing this, I think it is a small "bug" but haven't reported it figuring that somebody else would.

Sign Off and Send was too simple I guess. Oh well, just another adjustment. Both of these options are doable. I just really think that when you are signing off of items, you should have numerous options including sending a message to office staff, send a Rx, send an order, actually be able to "NOT" sign off if an error was made and the patient's names don't match up, send a letter. All of these should be small buttons while signing off on CT scans, labs, pathology, etc.

I agree w/ Scalpel.

We need the "Send a Message" function back in order to be able to communicate an action based on the lab report we are reviewing. We should be able to have the front desk set up a F/U appt, or communicate the test results to the pt w/ a nurse phone call, etc. A reminder is supposed to be an internal "tickler' to do something in the future, it does not address the need to do something "Right now'.

Not as good a sign off as before version 5. The version 4 sign off windows allowed a "real message" to be sent, not just a reminder. Real messages can be color coded (which alerts my over-burdened staff on urgency, need to file in chart, etc.), and can be sent to more than one recipient, or a group. Reminders can't.

I too miss the Sign off & send button but what I do now is click Orders and then "Others" -->free text my message-->Add-->Send Orders.
BTW, does anyone know where the Batch sign imported items is or is it also gone in V5029?

Thanks

I feel much better that others agree.

Hey Bert, this isn't even a complaint. Just a suggestion to leave what we had in v4 and put it back into v5. OK, maybe a little complaint

Hey complain away. What we need once every eight weeks is for Jon and the developers to read through the boards (we would have to all become anonymous), find the best ideas and spend a week putting some in.

I've always found it interesting that software developers tend to want to change things just to change them. Why some things that were a god-send in earlier versions of the software tend to disappear in later versions I'll never know.

Companies like Nuance need to create new versions to keep the money coming in. Companies like AC shouldn't feel this pressure and should simply update/upgrade/improve the program because certain areas need it.

Another way is to not delete the message after signoff, then add your comments above the item and send it as a message to the staff.

Be cautious about doing this if you have more than one item to sign off. If you edit the sign off notification in the Messages list to send it to a staff member, and then delete the copy from the list of messages, when you return to the sign off window, clicking will sign off the next document in the sign off list without viewing it.

Right, I have done that and then have a hard time finding the item that was signed off without review.

Yes, you have to search through all the deleted messages and try to figure out whose document you didn't see.

Here is a tip you may like. Instead of writing your message in the sign off box and then changing screens to send a message to the nurse/staff try using the order button. I switched to this method last week and it is definitely easier on my end. I click the order button, write a message to the staff and when I finish the order, it copies the entire message into the message box attached to the imported item. Then I am able to sign off and I only had to write my message once. Once the staff contacts the patients w/ their instructions, they check off order completed. Anyone else tried this way?

Mine used to do that but doesn't put the orders in the comments box anymore. What version are you using? I am on V5.0.29. I would love to have that working again.
Now I send them an order which allows tracking....but it has to be done separately and does not automatically copy to the chart or to the comment section on the imported item.
