This has been run by the big guy, and he has no issue with it. On the other hand I see the possibility of good and bad.
A user came to me stating he is upgrading his server, therefore he has a relatively new server that he will be forced to sell on eBAY, etc. He thought it would be better if an AC user had first dibs at it. (I am assuming at a slightly lower price -- that didn't come up). That all sounds great.
On the other hand, this may lead to part of the board being used for selling and buying, not necessarily a bad thing.
What would users think of a new forum called:
Tech Talk and acBAY. Uses could talk about the latest technology which would lead right into people talking about sales etc.
I am torn. I like the idea of Tech Talk. Not sure about acBAY. Please give me your thoughts on this.

There is such a forum on another technical user's group I use. It is not used much but gives an place to post items for sale that might appeal to that group. It sure does not replace e-bay. I'd rate it as innocuous.
I just look at new posts myself without much regard to which forum they are posted.

I don't see a problem with the above- you still have to register and if there is a problem with basically starting a e-shop business then you can PM/turn them off.

I think it sounds like a good idea. Perhaps people could be limited in the number or frequency they could post items for sale, say 1-4 per year.
Who would monitor? I would say good faith, but if it is noted to be abused, perhaps either restricting the user or such. Tech talk, absolutely.

I think this is leaning toward doing this. I will give it another day or so of opinions. Thanks Wendell.

Question about TechTalk - is that where we would bring subjects about the cutting/bleeding edge tech that is out in the marketplace?
As I mentioned @ ACUC, I've placed my order for the latest Android phone to drop on July 15th, and look forward to sharing how it works with AC once it is hand.
Not sure how interested folks will be beyond certain rocket scientists, so perhaps it better fits that new forum.

Yes, exactly. Which, the Motorola Droid X. The Froya. The HTC Incredible. The EVO?

I think this will lead to people registering to sell stuff, and not to help users. It will also be hard to police, since there is no verification of who anyone is who registers here. You have some degree of protection buying from eBay, none here.
Not in favor.

Tech talk sounds great to me. I am torn on the forum for selling things. I think if there was a way to really just limit it to AC users it would be great but like John said there is no verification system. Without a verification that you are just buying/selling with fellow AC users, it seems like you are just re-inventing the wheel(E-Bay) and opening up the boards to a swarm of non-users who are just there to make a buck rather than help out the AC community(isn't the point of having the AC user boards to help out the AC community and not the community at large?).

My vote: Tech talk....thumbs up. For all the reasons mentioned above. (Indy, I want AC on my Droid, too. First I need a Droid).
acBAY...thumbs down. John and David R. stated it well; basically little potential benefit to the group in exchange for potentially significant aggravation.

Bert & Jon - I laid my money down for a Droid-X. I realize that the Driod2 is coming as well, but It's time to retire my BB.
Because of commercial interests, I can't wait any longer for RIM to get their act together, and I need apps in my hand, not just on my laptop.
When it comes to what I read on - bigger is better. Touch control FTW!
Once it is operational, I'll put up a vid of the beast in action.

Yes, I have been researching the Droid-X and the Incredible. I believe I read quite a bit about Froyo. I tend to read a lot by Engadget.
The biggest part I have difficulty understanding is the hardware and the OS. I have used BB and iMate in the past. I am using HTC with 6.1. Even with Windows Phone 7, I doubt I will go that route again. This goes against my previous posts, but even right when they are about to get it right, I feel like they had enough time to get it right, and they didn't.
But, the one HTC along with 6.1 left a bad taste in my mouth. And, I have had huge issues charging the battery with the HTC. So, when I look at the Android phones, and I see a similar screen, especially that time in numbers that are larger than a billboard, I have a difficult time distinguishing between what is what.
Making it all way more difficult are the fact that the locked phones are all tied to companies. Here, you are lucky to get through one call on AT&T without being dropped. Verizon is king here. You can get the HTC Incredible, but I am not sure about the others.
I do know that I want to move to either the Android OS or go with the iPhone 4 (once it moves to Verizon). I just think you can't go wrong there.

Google "iphone4 vs HTC Evo"... there is a "safe for work version" for those who don't want to hear the foul language.

either the Android OS or go with the iPhone 4 (once it moves to Verizon) OK, I won't write rotfl. I was really rolling on the floor laughing. That was hilarious. And, to think I am pretty much he or maybe she. But, I heard you can get it at Walgreen's.

Bert,
my youngest daughter came in my office yesterday and said, "I sent you a funny video, you have to watch it." It was this very same video.
To appreciate this, you have to know that she is a technophile, and while she uses a iPhone, we have been talking about the oncoming Android and Google tech.
She laughed hard, and is definitely not a mindless iBimbo.

That's too cool. I showed my staff today. It is just so funny. Have you seen the one where the guy brings in his Evo to get it fixed at the iPhone store. I guess on cable, you could replace the Apple -- Microsoft ads with those.

http://www.rentobile.com/index.php?dispatch=categories.view&category_id=87Have you ever seen this site before. Makes sense; maybe not to use long term as they suggest, but to demo some phones. Of course, they still have to be on your network. I know the Droid X and I believe the Evo/Incredible are all Hotspots. For me, I don't see where that would have been an advantage, but if someone had one at the conference early on, he or she would have been the most popular person there.

HAHAHA! Great video! Bert, when you and Indy figure out which is best (and on the Verizon plan) let me know. Otherwise, I don't care.

Even if it has three wishes and one of them is an iPhone 4 and another one is a Paperport that was compatible?
The Droid X is its own hot spot. Of course, it's $20 more per month, so I see that as a wash, lol. But, I can just picture you on the pharm, Droid X at the side, feeding the cattle and whipping out your laptop. You instantly access the Internet with your laptop to check the price of feed, then purchase ten bags using Google Pay (or whatever) and it arrives by FedEx by 10 am the next morning. All this while posting a couple of posts on AC user's board, and remoting into your office to check some PDFs in Paperport.
