What are people using for essential hypertension? 401.1 gives me an "incomplete code" alert from AC. Is there a better code?

I have wondered this too, but used it as I can find no better more specific code than benign essential hypertension.

Try 401.9, I think this is the common one used(at least it has worked so far!).

I found that I have to go in and edit alot of the ICD-9 codes... My providers had a hard time searching them out if they weren't can find them..."essential" was not something they looked for.....and 2.) editing with just the basic diagnosis name has helped with the "look up" tool.
