Going back to favorites, one of my big favorites was the unlimited quick billing box that scrolls.

I've become so used to it, I forgot about the old way until I added something the other day.

Unlimited quick code box and the ability to add allergies without having to save an entire note.

OK guys, I need to know more about this. Is this in the Search for ICD-9 code section? If so, why is it helpful?

Thanks for the help.

My favorite in the latest upgrade is the prescription writer that now will let you enter ALL the refill meds, alert you which ones can't be e-prescribed, and then let you print those without re-entering. WAY COOL, FOLKS!!

I am so frustrated. Steven finally teaches me how to do refills from the New Crop screen and guess what? Exactly. I haven't had a refill on there since then.

It says, you had to have sent four or five scripts to that pharmacy before they will send refills to you. Can, I just randomly send four test scripts to every pharmacy in town?

You are a busy pediatrician - a few days of sending scrips should get you there. Some pharmacies never seem to get a clue - I am going to generate a letter to fax to pharmacies - some are still sending me faxes (Sending e scrips for a year now). I think some it is because they don't want to spring for software and are really receiving just a fax from Newcrop - difficult to know.

The frustrating thing is, while patients can choose what pharmacy and thereby dictate which pharmacies do better, it is difficult for us to do the same. I know two pharmacies here in town who I will not name, but there intials are Wall and Mart. They simply do NOT have fax machines. Just those things that people use in their homes. I got so frustrated, I boycotted them. But, it isn't like you can tell your patients where to go (well pharmacy-wise).

I ePrescribe now, so it's a moot point, but before my patients would say they were going to Wall and Mart, and I would tell them I was going to fax it and they would say, "Well, I will call you when I get there, 'cause you know it won't be there." Never understood why I just didn't write them a script. Oh, yeah, now I remember, Medicaid. Can't give them scripts. Federal law and everything.

It would be really cool if they had different versions of the ICD-9 list. Like:

FP minimal
FP moderate
FP max

Peds minimal
Peds moderate
Peds max

You could always add and you could always upgrade or downgrade. I use about 100 ICD-9 codes over and over, but obviously, there are some I will need that are outside that realm. But, I tried to find Closed Head Injury yesterday. This is a not uncommon diagnosis. But, instead, it comes up with LITERALLY about 50 diagnoses which are something like:

Closed fracture of vault of skull without mention of intracranial injury. Does that just mean that someone didn't mention it? But there were hundreds just like this.

Finally, my coder found the ICD-9 code for Closed Head Injury.

It is difficult sometimes when you are in a room trying to order an abdominal ultrasound and looking for a code for protuberant abdomen. IMd my coder and five minutes later, I had the code.

Steven..

If you refill a bunch of meds, and some are controlled substances, BEFORE the latest version of AC if you pushed the button to send them all electronically it merrily sent on your Ambien script electronically and the pharmacy called to tell you that you were a moron. NOW the program keeps you from doing that, and subtly reminds you that you are a moron in the privacy of your very own exam room. Much better.

That's hilarious David. Couldn't stop laughing. smile

My favorite way to be a moron is when a medication that is obviously approved by Medicaid in Maine like Zithromax is turned down by the pharmacy. So, I get way up on my high horse and call them only to find out it is something obscure that never comes up such as Medicaid does not allow a Medicaid member to have Zithromax twice in one month. Apparently, you can only have sinusitis once a month. It's not as if they are saving money, given I will just prescribe Augmentin or Ceftin anyway.

Hahaha! You two are killing me!! But, speaking of codes, yesterday I had to leave an exam room to look up the code for testicular injury/blunt trauma/hematoma (caused by a case of wearing too tightly-fitting gym shorts smile ). I had to go back to my office and recover my composure before I could return to the room. The code is 911!!!

Do you mean where you usually pick the 99213 quick code on the last screen? But, you choose the Search CPT Codes on the right? Sorry, I don't use that screen much?

Exactly why I'm glad we don't need to accept Medicaid (or Medicare) here.

I know, but I don't really have a choice.

But, I have to admit the law has cut down my Zithromax diversion 30%

Okay...here's what I love about AC. It is so intuitive. My husband, who is my IT guy who has no formal IT training, upgraded our server to V.0.28 from HOME!!! In 20 minutes!!! We have two offices, one provider(me)and he did the upgrade of both offices, 10 computers total, in 2 hours. Now how great is that?

My new favorite is the yellow "sticky note" reminder box at the top. I can put things there like "Son diagnosed with parkinson's" or "spouse died in January", and while checking other parts of the record can casually ask how things are going. It is saving me from a lot of foot in mouth disease.

Do you know if...
the "sticky note" then carries through on each of that patient's future encounters or just to ones that have the
same chief complaint? (i.e "use previous encounter")?

I like that v5 interfaces with more PM systems now.

When's the next update to v5 coming? We need more stuff/fixes. Feed the beast.
