OK, I went to check refill orders on the new crop screen from the main menu.
Problem 1) you have to close the screen to open the patient chart to do the refill. There were about 20 people on the screen so I would need to write them down then close, very cumbersome.

Problem 2) When I click from a Rx screen on the patient manage ecrop, I have been getting errors because some of the older, not e sent Rxes have units associated with them. How do I manage all these?

Problem 3) Some of the requests have already been refilled, how can I get them deleted? Must they go through the "maange ecrop" rather than just re-prescribe, to remove?

I'm hoping there is a better way I am overlooking. HELP!

1) It is a pain - AC is working on final touches to new method (hopefully each refill request will arrive as e-mail, etc.)

2) This still happens with my older pt - I simply go in and change all to 0 in qty/refill so that I know I did this for change to eprescribing, his prescribe and then don't send. Then can go into Newcrop - pain in the neck, but livable as you get all of your patients adjusted.

3) As far as I know you have to use manage newcrop for now - I think you can delete or send new refills.

But how are you doing the change in quantity? Refill Rx?

It then makes the refill date not accurate if you have to "prescribe" it

I was just trying out the electronic prescribing, and got the letter over the fax from the pharmacies saying that now they see I can do eprescribing, they will start sending refill requests this way. Uh oh, I don't know if I will like this. The main thing: if refilling online, AC will not show this in the history unless you do it from within AC. I may want to opt out of this, but do not know if it is possible? Is e-scripting for refills more complicated then faxing it from AC?
What AC needs is a two way interface, so you not only SEND the script but get the REFILL REQUEST back WITHIN AC. DO you think we will get this?
Another big question: will I get refill requests only for those patients for which I SENT it electronic, or for ALL patients from that pharmacy now?

I do not want any refill request from anybody but the patient. If they need a refill....they need an appt.

It is possible to say this in the refill window. Just choose the "Deny" button, and send the message to the pharmacist "Refill denied; have patient call office".

No, eRx is a two way street.

Yes, you need to check for refills, and open the NewCrop window to authorize refills. The procedure, step by step, is:

Check several times daily to see if pharmacies have sent you refill requests:
1. Use the drop-down menu heading "Online Services", at the top of every main window of Amazing Charts.
2. Choose "Electronic Prescribing".
3. The NewCrop window opens showing the pharmacy renewal requests. You can't authorize the refills from this window, only check if any are pending.

To approve a refill request:
1. You must be logged on as the prescriber. Staff may not approve refill requests.
2. Enter the patient name in the Patient List search box at the left of the main AC window.
3. Right click on the patient name, and choose "Medications & Prescribing".
4. In the window that opens, click on the "ePrescribing" drop-down menu item at the top left of this window, and click on "Manage via NewCrop Screens".
5. The NewCrop window opens, displaying the patient's med list.
6. At the top center of this window is a line "Pharm: , Fax: , Pend:". The "Pharm" is in red if prescription(s) are waiting to be approved.
7. Click on this line, and keep clicking on the patient's name in each subsequent window that opens until you reach a screen that asks you to fill in the number of refills.
8. When you click "Accept", you are done -- with this patient.
You repeat the process for each patient on the refill list.

Future versions of Amazing Charts are to include the ability to process refill requests within the "Medications & Prescribing" window .

The pharmacy can now send any Rx electronic now. In practice, after using eRx for a year, I don't get more than 3-4 eRx refill requests a day, and some days none.
