Hi All,
I am in the process of trying to create some standardized way of categorizing messages that get saved to the Past Encounters section of the chart as part of the "Progress Notes". I thought it would be best to come up with a system that everybody can use to document notes on patients that makes it easier for the doctor to browse when she is preparing for a patient visit.
For example, I thought to record messages using the categories present in the encounter. Ex: changes to relationship status, smoking, diet, exercise and stress would get a subject of "SOCHx: details" Ex: if a patient develops new allergies to medications we would make a message with the header "ALLERGIES: medications" Ex: refills would be "MEDICATIONS: refills", or changes to medications would be "MEDICATIONS: increase dose of X" Ex: new surgeries/accidents or hospitalizations are recorded as "PMHx: Surgery"
I am wondering if other offices use some kind of system like this? And if so, would they be willing to share their system? OR do you just have staff record messages with whatever subject they choose?
Thanks,
S.K.

Wow this is a subject I have never considered, but I am impressed with where you are going and the value it will add.

Very neat idea! I have had some frustrations with staff not putting ANY subject header in the saved messages which makes for very difficult information retrieval. I like your idea and I would like it even more if it were coupled with a previous recommendation to separate the past encounter tab from the messages tab.
