I'm an oldie but (AC) newbie with solo allergy practice. Need help re setting up fax capabilities. Have AC on 5 clients and one server which also has HP all in one on the network. I want to fax Rx with e prescribe and also AC letters to referring docs. Suggestions re how to accomplish e.g. with Winfax, "Updox", and set up. Also, is it possible or even necessary to have fax cover sheet with disclaimer "If you receive in error, uh, please don't tell anybody" or something like that?

There are indeed a miread of ways to send faxes. I use several of them.
We have a brother AIO (all in one) that we fax from. I also sometimes fax from Windows. Both are as easy as printing, just choose a different "printer" and type the address. You can even set your cover letter to say what you want. Not quite sure how your HP AIO works but it is probably similar.

There is updox and internet faxing. I haven't used them

Are cover letters necessary? Depends on how well you know the recipient and whether they are expecting the fax. It is nice to have a telephone and return fax number if you accidently get the wrong fax or not all the pages go through.

Can you fax Rx's?

See the thread on prescription entry. We are still setting it up, but there is a place in administration to put a scanned signature, and it seems that allows Schedule III-V meds to be faxed with a signature without first printing.

BTW, we are told by our pharmacies that even with electronic prescriptions, they have to print them out. Our only issues with faxed scripts vs. e-prescribe have been mechanical... their fax runs out of paper, gets overloaded, faxes get lost.

Most pharmacies do not have to print e scrips - even if your pharmacy does not take e scrips you can still send them electronically and get the bonus.....they will get faxes from surescrips on their end.

Lowell, to answer your question. Yes. Except for eScripts, it is the preferred method for a lot of pharmacies. CII can't be faxed but CV can with a signature. Otherwise, fax away.

As to fax directly from your PC, there are literally hundreds of threads on here about that. Otherwise ask away.
