I just installed v5 on an old Sony Laptop and have been test driving it before migrating from v4-v5 on our server and 30 workstations.

Some questions:
[1] Speed - on the Sonly Laptop v5 is painfully slow!! Is v5 significantly slower than v4 and will my providers notice this when upgrading? (I have a realatively new Dell server w windows 2003r2 installed and plenty of RAM, desktops are all w/i 3 years old).
[2] In order for us to udate/upgrade it is a MAJOR big deal having a server and 30+ workstations. Should I wait for the next v5 fix or is the current one relatively stable. Each upgrade required HOURS and HOURS to do all the workstations.

Any and all advice appreciated.

tnx

I have been using v5 on our network of 10 computers with just a 64bit vista desktop as the server with 8gb of ram we installed it around 2/14. overall it has been ok. I like lots of the new updates in v5- but some screens are slow and it can be annoying-

1) trying to document health maintenance or risk factors screens both have a several second pause after you check save on either- do other people experience this- it is annoying but not horrible
2) I use shortkeys a program that will expand a code of say- htn-to hypertension- and longer things that I use in AC- and while it worked fine anywhere in v4 and before certain fields especially the physical exam, assessment and plan areas when i send a command in there it types it out like someone typing 20 words a minute- it happens no where in any other programs and if I open the larger screen for a field with ctrl+e- it works at normal speed there. VERY ANNOYING!!
3) sometimes but not always there is up to a 10-15 second pause waiting to pull up a chart from my message area- this is quite annoying but unpredictable - any one else experiencing this

so if I were you James I would probably hold off not necessarily because of the issues above but for all the little bugs such as shortened fields in the results area- the current version is workable but has some small annoying bugs.

The bugs are annoying but my busiest time of year is summer so I don't want to wait until then to do the upgrade. I haven't noticed it being slower but it takes time to get used to the changes and the added features. Some functions are not really working yet....like reconciling labs. I am a very small practice. I'd wait if I were you but V5 is well worth waiting for.

V5 is a little slower to load than V4. Usually I stay logged in under my windows account so this does not effect me often.

That said, when running, it opens charts and goes through the paces at about the same speed.

The HM section does have a small hiccup on loading. Lately the prescription writer has been taking a few seconds longer to load than before (earlier it seemed about the same speed as before.)

I have rarely seen the slower chart opening Tim mentioned. When I did there were other programs running in the background.

IF IT IS A MAJOR PAIN TO UPGRADE, wait until the final version is released. I believe it is close if not formally out (if you go to the log in update section they are on V5.) But I would expect another update may be forthcoming and would probably wait for that one, which may be the official release.

E prescribing is nice and works well. Immunization updates are useful but not perfect. HM will be useful, I am still figuring out how to use them best. Overall, it's still the same program.
