If my mom wants to become my wife's patient, what are the implication of insurance. Is it considered conflict of interest?
My mom is taking one of the individual catastrophic high deductible plan.
I am sure someone must have gone through this.

If they are medicare the answer is simply no they can't become patients. The chart must be kept as you would for any other patient and basically can't write controlled meds for family. I used to have partners who saw my family and my wife ended up with 2 different problems that eventually ended up being surgical cases but until then tried to give pain meds that I would do for anyone else but had to beg partner who was not on call, to call them in so pharmacy would fill. I also got another physicians dad who had to transfer completely out of the their practice due to medicare.
Solo practice has it's headaches but beats being an employee.
