I just watched Jon's v5 video again and in it he says that if the diagnosis for diabetes is in your problem list then it will check the box for it in Health/Risk Factors area and thus add all the related issues to health maintenance - it doesnt work for me I have to manually check the Endocrine: Diabetes Mellitus box in the Health/Risk Factors area to get the rules to come up in health maintenance.
Other question is for those of you who are using erx- are the pharmacies getting them reliably and does AC- give any proof that the script was sent to the pharmacies?
Any ideas why clicking on the medication area in the current encounter opens the new different medication list rather than the regular prescription window- how are people using it?
thanks tim

Other question is for those of you who are using erx- are the pharmacies getting them reliably and does AC- give any proof that the script was sent to the pharmacies? My outgoing eRx is working fine. You get no confirmation the that Rx has been sent, except that the window closes. Click the drug name and choose the "History" button below to display what are the dates each drug was prescribed. It doesn't save the pharmacy name (which would be nice), so I enter that in the "Comments" are when writing the eRx. To check incoming renewals from pharmacies you must open the patient's chart, then the prescription writer window, then "NewCrop screens" under the drop-down ePrescribing menu at the upper left of the window. Any ideas why clicking on the medication area in the current encounter opens the new different medication list rather than the regular prescription window- how are people using it? It allows you to correct the current meds while generating the encounter. Not as useful as the prescription writer. And it seems slow to me when searching for drug names.

I would agree with above. My outgoing is working fine. I possibly had 1 failure out of about 150 Rxs. I have not checked into renewals lately, earlier, it was too soon.
I have not used the Health risk factors enough to give you a response.

Thelack of erx confirmation, and that it doesn't save where it was sent is a problem for me. I'd like to see it at least save "the last pharmacy an Rx was sent to for a patient." And if it was ultimately faxed (and the fax number). That should be on NewCrops end, and accessible by us.
Would be nice it if automatically sent an email to the patient too. Something generic, like "Your prescription has be sent to the following pharmacy."

Clicking the meds in the note allows you to discontinue meds such as antibiotics that were completed, add meds from other doctors, etc. This makes it so when you print the note the med list will show the current meds the pt. had when they entered the exam room (with the corrections noted above) and then the Plan will have meds you have discontinued, added or changed that visit.
I try to use the click the meds to do above - then when I delete, add, modify meds during the visit it will show that I made those changes during that visit.

When I first transitioned to e prescribing I got a few that did not go through - now they all essentially work (knock on wood - hate to say that and have it fall apart). I have a few pharmacies that give an error and do not allow me to send - AC says that is an error which will be corrected with next release.
Refills sent electronically by the pharmacies are still a problem, but the lead software engineer at AC says they are working on this and hope to get a good workable solution that will help, not hinder our workflow - just have faith.
I think if you are really worried about where you sent them you should just type it in the comment section - eg Walmart, 5ht and main, etc. I don't worry that much - if the pt. calls and says it didn't go through I just have my staff find out where and I send it again. Really has rarely ever happened and I send a lot of e prescriptions.
E prescribing is such an improvement and I think it will only get BETTER.

OK, now how do refill requests from the pharmacy work?
I just received a fax from New Crop stating that they would begin to send refill requests electronically. How will I know that a person has been sent a refill request?

On the main AC page - select e prescribing - will bring up newcrop screens - on top will be link that says Pharm __, etc. You can view this and see list of refills pending - the rub is that you have to open each pt chart - open scrip writer, hit new crop screens, hit pharm__ again and then open each scrip to refill (if you hit accept with 0 refills - it will do one). Then close and go to next pt. This is very time consuming - AC is still working on this workflow and I expect they will get it done within the next 4-6 weeks, but you know how that can go. The reason I was told is that Surescrips requires AC to have you review all of the pt. scrips before refilling one to make sure you have addressed interactions, etc. I have suggested that e refills come in as e-mails attached to pt. chart and then you could just open e-mail....hopefully some method that is good will be developed.

There will be lot to discuss at an ACUC.

I think the lack of confirmation is kind of "icing on the cake" - before when I faxed my scrips (almost all except mail order and Schedule II) I never got any confirmation - 2-3 times per day I would check my incoming faxes and see if any fails were in there. It really became a rarity - today I had 2 faxes not go through, but until the pt. / pharmacy calls I don't know if I don't check. I think it would be great if it put where you e-scribed it to, but am not sure if we will see that anytime soon.
