OK, maybe I'm looking in the wrong place - maybe I'm just not "getting" it... But what does reconciling a lab actually do? Once it's been reconciled, I cant find any documentation in the chart that it has been reconciled. You cant search for reconciled labs under the "reports" section...
Just not sure what this extra step is doing? Anyone have more experience or knowledge on this?
Thanks in advance.

It helps you know you do not have any unchecked labs out there. If you do enough labs, you might not remember to f/u on the lytes on Pt A, but certainly do not want to discover 3 weeks later the creatinine went to 3.4
Once you know they are back it's no big deal, of course if they are normal. You just need to know all that was sent came back and was checked.
If someone else has other thoughts, please let me know, but this is how I view the funtion.

There are a couple of ways to see them once they are reconciled together.
If you go to View then Orders, you can click on completed and sort by (for example) Labs. This will bring up the orders that are associated with a lab. If you reconciled an imported item for that lab, it will display the item that was attached.
If you go to the imported items section of a patients chart and click on the lab that was reconciled with a lab, on the left side, you will see the order that you attached to the imported item.
Basically, orders is a way to follow your orders until their completion. It is also a way to see who ordered it and who completed it.

I would very much like to use this order reconciliation feature but it does not work for me as it now stands. I would reconcil orders with labs and imaging studies as I sign them off. I don't have an employee to collate the imported items with the orders. We currently use a paper tickler file that I could get rid of if I could use this lab reconciliation function. It would be ideal to be able to access this area from the patients chart. From the imported items area of the patients chart. It does not appear in the drop down menu under view in the patient's chart.....sure wish it did. It would be a great way to accomplish some of our work flow processes. Now we have to leave the chart and remember what we have seen.....or click on a result that can't be reviewed to collate the order with the result. It doesn't work as it is now. Help Joe!!
