There have been a few threads lately that haven't been the nicest to other users. So, I wrote a song based on Lonely People by America in the next post. In order to get it, you have to know the song by America. Lonely People by America on Youtube. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fu4h4xqdJ_8&feature=relatedOriginal lyrics by AmericaThis is for all the lonely people Thinking that life has passed them by Don't give up until you Drink from the silver cup And ride that highway in the sky This is for all the single people Thinking that love has left them dry Don't give up until you Drink from the silver cup You never know until you try Well I'm on my way Yes I'm back to stay Well I'm on my way back home This is for all the lonely people Thinking that life has passed them by Don't give up until you Drink from the silver cup She'll never take you down or never give you up You'll never know until you try

Read post above or this will make little sense.
I SHOULD POINT OUT THAT THIS IS PURELY SATIRICAL AND NOT AIMED AT ANYONE ELSE BUT MYSELF.
SENSITIVE USERS
by Bert
This is for all the sensitive users Thinking all posts are aimed at you. Don’t reply until you drink from the forgiving cup And, wait 24 hours until you do.
This is for all the hurting doctors, Thinking the board has brought them pain. Don’t give up until you pray to your loving God To take away all of your disdain.
Well, I feel alive Now, that I have v5 Well, I’m back to loving all.
This is for all the selfless healers Healing the sick with just their touch Don’t post back until you’ve read it again and again And, don’t judge others until you think of them as a friend I really don’t think it takes that much.

It's like clothing. People laugh at what we wore then, but then it was in. I think teenagers of today will look back and laugh at the jeans they wore that makes them look like plumbers.
Bread and America were awesome. But, you couldn't be America.

I have both of them in my CD collection I have to admit, I got rid of Seals and Crofts' greatest hits though.

Vicki,
I have to admit, I have no idea what you are talking about. No problem deleting you, but can you explain more?

Didn't understand the thread, but liked your lyrics. Try clicking on the link for 80s nostalgia: America singing Lonely People. PS You're good, but I wouldn't give up your day job.

Now, I am totally confused. I guess I will stop trying, lol. Clicking on either link on this thread witll take you to America singing Lonely People. The thread is pretty straightforward. I wrote a song that is based on the song Lonely People (kind of like Weird Al Yankovich or whatever his last name is). In order for anyone to follow it, they would need both the original lyrics and the original song. Then my song makes sense. Actually, I thought it was pretty good.

OK, here's what's funnier than hell. And, I would have never lived it down.
When going through the 20 or so videos of people doing a cover of the song, I finally came across someone who actually did a "decent" job. Turns out it was they the whole time. I guess I am just used to Gerry Beckley singing Sister Golden Hair.
But, trust me Steven, if you heard some of the others, I could do better. Seriously.

Bert, poetry is your forte. You wrote the most beautiful poem for my late-wife's funeral service.
STOP singing for the love of the Lord. As your best-friend, take the advise.
You sang me a song once, it was nice. Then you asked me out on a date. I had to say no because I was married at the time....although I am single now.
Maybe it's time for another serenade....

Bert,
Just saw the post. I likey. I haven't heard that song in a long time. I guess I'm one of those that grew up on some of that stuff.
Of course there were some sappier ones too. Can't remember them right now.
Anyway, Thanks.

Slightly off topic, Piano Man by Billy Joel's been one of my favorites too. Oh heck, I like a lot of his stuff. Should I mention Barry Manilow?
I'll stop now.

LOL Peter @Ansharda. I saw Billy Joel in concert in Jacksonville, FL years ago. He was awesome. He is a lot like an Elton John in that he rarely puts out a bad song. But, Elton is Elton. Can't quite get any better than that. @Adam OK, I will promise not to sing, but you have to promise not to teach English. Advise is the verb, Advice is the noun.

Speaking of live concerts, Bert, I remember seeing Chicago, live in Philadelphia near the art museum. Friends and I were like 20 feet from the stage. It was great.

Hey Bert,
Yes it was the 4th. of July. Heh!
Strangely enough, Philadelphia used to do these things on the right days. Maybe they still do, but I haven't lived there in years.
Once I actually saw Chuck Berry (Barry?) playing in St. Louis at the Arch right near the 4th.

That's awesome. Chuck Berry is the rock and roll singer. Chuck Barris is/was the game show producer.

Thanks Tom,
Why can't they come to Portland, Maine? I would love for some of those early 70s bands to come around. I always find it amazing how most of them keep their voices even in their 60s. I mean, look at Mick Jagger and Elton John. They have probably lost 1/2 half an octave.
Whatever happened to Cindi Lauper? Supposedly she could go up and down four octaves which was supposedly more than anyone can. Don't know.

Tom,
Have you seen the prices at French Lick? Even us "locals" cannot afford it. It is a beautiful hotel as is the one at West Baden but, outside of the hotels and casinos, there is not much to do. One can only partake of the Pluto water so long. Because of its location along busy train routes east/west and north/south, it once was a mecca for the elite (Hollywood stars, gangsters, politicos). But now the county is one of the poorest in the state and, shy of being known as the home of Larry Bird, it has been all but forgotten. I am always glad to hear about events coming there. The county needs the tourist trade. And, as much as I would love to see America, I will have to pass.

Bert,
The last live concert I went to was about 8 years ago when I saw my idols Peter, Paul and Mary. I left heartbroken because poor Mary Travers' voice was pitiful. It ruined my memories. I have heard some of the new Eagles stuff and enjoyed that but, for the most part, I am content to leave the 70's to my fond memories and my Ipod. No better memories than those of me lying on my bed in my college dorm with my headphones on and Santana blaring Oye Como Va. Ho hum.

Two best concerts I've seen:
Merrillville, Indiana; Holiday Star Theatre: highly recommended place to see 60's and 70's groups. I saw a triple-header there: Edgar Winter, (one of the-) Allman brothers, and Three Dog Night. and with the older crowd it's casual: you can go to the stage and take pics; they have a cocktail bar (though I did not partake). Great place and was a great concert.
Berlin, 1990: Roger Waters, The Wall--yes, AT the Wall, as it was in the process of coming down. 250,000 people in a dust bowl, right in front of the mid-stage. I felt lucky to make it out alive but was a great show with many famous opening acts.

When I lived in Chicago, I would go to Mayor Byrne's Chicagofest. $6.00 to see every event and group on the pier. Always one big name would play. I saw Cheap Trick.
It's amazing to watch Cheap Trick while the Chicago police (not know for their manners throwing people out who were smoking pot).
But, Cheap Trick. Hard to rock and better than that.

Now Bert and Tom and everyone else, if the gang wants to have a get-together in French Lick, I am game. I could justify the expense then as it would be put down as a business venture I am not sure though how I would denote the business miles accrued by my team of mules. Leslie

HA! I saw the red "anger" face in the list of forums and thought "oh no, what'd I say???"
That concert was broadcast live all over Europe. Anyone know whether it was HERE in the U.S. too?

I have always enjoyed concerts as well. My favorite so far was seeing Steve Vai at a little theater in Albuquerque, NM and standing about 10 feet from him for the concert. I was a closet smoker then and snuck out twice for a smoke during and came back to the same spot after. There were maybe 150 or 200 people there.
The second favorite was seeing Yes and Dream Theater in Albuquerque as well. It was a very fun concert and I almost crushed the guitarist walking in a crowd (I am quite big, he was small) on accident. I had a drink with him after at the bar, he bought me a martini and was very nice.
