How about that Anthem, letting a laptop be stolen carrying unencrypted data on every Anthem-credentialed physician in the country?
Makes you want to keep a little closer eye on your CC statements.

Bank of America just changed my CC number because my CC # was "potentially compromised."
Nothing will happen to these companies because of their recklessness. But if one of us violates HIPAA...

AMEX called me a couple of weeks ago because someone tried to charge $1 at bed, bath on beyond on my card number. AMEX's software decided that was a "test charge" to see if the card was valid in order to later go on a spending spree. Very interesting. Their software was right. The thief never got to the spending spree.

That's cool by AMEX! Did they catch the person?
On the flip side, I have always found it funny when a clerk will check my signature on the back of my card and question it when I am purchasing two highlighters from Staples. Maybe that is why.

My HSA card was recently blocked by the CC company because someone placed a charge for $70 for an online software-training product. At least I got that refunded. Computers seem to be the hot item for thieves these days.

Bert, I don't know and will probably never know if AMEX caught the $1 bed bath and beyond charger. I'm not stylish enough to shop there and that probably tipped AMEX off.

A couple of years ago, an employee of Citibank was using my card to buy furniture and other high end items. It took them quite a while to catch her.
