I didn't see this problem anywhere, so I'm going to bring it up and see if anyone has a fix.
After a letter has been generated to a patient, or a consultant it is saved in the imported items folder under outbound letters. When we open it to try and reprint it, it puts a big X under the header, and it lists the file location at the bottom of the sheet and we're unable to edit that off.

After clicking on the "Print Item" button (at the bottom right of the Imported Items window), the "Print Preview" window opens. At the top is a gear-like icon, which opens the "Page Setup" options. Try changing the Headers and Footers to get the letter to display what you want.
I have tried to print several of my letters, and I don't have an "X" under the title.

Hi Carolie, The letter writer has ALWAYS been the part of the program that needs fixing the most. I absolutely deplore it, mainly because letters are saved in HTML. Plus, you have no options as to how you want it to print as far as by itself or with demographics, etc. You can, but I mean I never want those, so I wish it could default to whatever you wanted. I always get the X as well, all part of HTML code. There are two workarounds, one has a number of steps, is boring, and takes around 45 to 60 seconds. The other is around two steps or so, is cool, and takes about 30 seconds. In the first method, you select the letter, choose Save Selected Item As from the File drop down menu, and save as a text file. You then copy and paste into Word, and edit from there. The good news is you can drag the Word document you made into the Imported Items, and you have a good letter forever. You can delete the other, but remember there is always that beautiful HTML copy in the Imported Items folder taking up space. The second method will cost you $34.95. I use it. I admit I didn't look long for this program, but it works and is rather cool, but of course cannot place the terribly formatted HTML document directly onto Word in a nice way, but that can be fixed. Download the following software: http://www.brothersoft.com/windows-html-to-word-2009-download-56150.htmlNow, you can keep this on your desktop and simply browse to the letter you want in the actual Imported Items folder. Any chance of convincing Jon to have the letter writer save in a different format? I mean, even RTF is better than that HTML junk.

Doubtful. And, RTF would be perfect. It's pretty much a Word doc anyway.

Untile, then, what's the saying, "A penny's worth an ounce of cure?" I forget.
But, you could start printing the letter to PDF format, and then print it out. That way you would have a pristine, albeit non-editable copy.

Thanks for the work-around Bert - though I don't realistically think the nursing staff will go to that amount of trouble (actually would be "Carolie can you come fix this...." all day long).

you mean that program converts html to word? awesome!  but really, i love conversion programs. I am always finding new ones and the flexibility is wonderful. I've found them for interconverting video formats; one for changing .lit to .pdf (and many other formats).

I tried the same route and it didn't work. Try going to download.com here: http://download.cnet.com/Windows-HTML-To-WORD/3000-10743_4-10637701.htmlIt appears to be the same file by description. I also found another program, Html to Word Doc Rtf Converter 3000 7.4, which I also downloaded. It is free I have not tried either one and may not get to them until the weekend, but this is at least a way, I think, to get to them. Anyone who tries this route, especially if the second program is useful (and free) let us know.

Ozzie, you've got to stop quoting the whole post, lol.  Most of the time we'll know what you are referring to. Or just quote a small part of the post. You are correct that the site seems to be down.  Wendell, I did try your link, and it is the same program from ypgsoft whose site is down (makes sense). It is severely restricted, and you would then have to pay $35 which is a bit much for that program in my opinion. Haven't tried the other one. I really would wait. My solution that I am beta testing will be out by Monday if not sooner.
